    Local ordinance or company policy.
Just keep a spare key always, if they want that to.
It may be safety policy also. If you have an Apu that will help.

NEVER MOVE FROM DOCK UNTILL, you get green light, paperwork, or you are told to leave.
Sometime you unhook from trailer, sometimes you drop and hook.

    standard procedures at many docks.

air polution, noise polution, city/town ordinances on idling, safety, so that the truck doesn't get knocked into gear and roll away..

when at the docks, FOLLOW thier policies....simple.

I load/unload inside buildings frequently. Can't get loaded if the crane operator is passed out from exhaust fumes.

I have not been able to confirm. However, I have been told it is an OSHA rule to protect the person operating the forklift. I personally know 3 people that have had serious accidents caused by drivers pulling away. There are several ways this is done. Most docks want engines off. Tandems slid back and a glad hand lock before they will unload.

Never ever been to a dock that told me to turn my engine off. I must be lucky.
