Suprised... Hope it doesn't become like in Russia, where it is normal to buy a driver's license. Never see anyone going to jail for selling them.

Maybe thyat guy that couldn't understand what he was doing was the smarter one. Would have if an Amtrac was rolling his way at 70 plus mph. That's a scary thought. We never found out if it was called in,oh well.

Please call 911 if any gates are malfunctioning, but advise the dispatcher:
This is not an emergency, but I don't know the non-emergency number.
Then tell us where you are and we are more than willing to contact the Railroad company. You can also report damaged crossings or debris on the tracks or anything. We have so many numbers to contact, its not even funny.
(Hit a deer? call us! Dropped a load? Yep. Stuck under an overpass? yep. Can't back up because of idiot passenger vehicles? Yep)
We may not like it, but we can and will handle all these situations.

    We get these calls daily.

As for the officer being on your side after crossing the tracks, I believe it's still illegal. (But understandable, and the judge would probably throw it out)

If you're a company driver throw the monkey on someone elses back. Qualcomm dispatch after a reasonable amount of time.

I suppose anything is possible, and I didn't offer it as a form of recommendation, if someone finds themselves in a similar situation, but what choice did I have at the time?

And in my defense, the only reason I even thought to do it, was due to the fact that there were four other arms that had been broken off, laying on the ground next to the signal. Apparently, this was an issue that had come up several times.

I look at it like this. Everyone has to size up a problem facing them, and they need to make a decision. Me? I'm not going to call a dispatcher and tell them that I sat at a railroad crossing for hours.

If it's me, the dark of night, and God as my only witness, I'll break the arm and go on my way.

I don't happen to agree with those restricted lane useage laws, and as a member of the Georgia Motor Trucking Association, I have protested them in this state profusely, and there has only been a limited amount of progress made so far. At least, in the Atlanta area, the "2 right lanes only" regulation governing all roadways has been changed, which has been a big help, but when there are three lanes, they are not budging an inch.

They need to visit places like El Paso where traffic moves so much more smoothly when through trucks are allowed in the leftmost lanes and don't have to fight with merging traffic since half the traffic in El Paso doesn't know how to merge properly.

Such regulations shouldn't even be necessary if there are signs posted saying "Slower traffic keep right".
