I think the owner-opreator mindset in NA is the more they mandate technology or regulation, the more they will continue to mandate. I don't think most of us disagree that these technologies are a good thing, but we are just putting drawing a line in the Sand to say stop with the regulations. Not trying to get political, but the attraction to being a small business owner is freedom of making your own choice. If a fleet wants these technologies, I say go for it. I am sure they get insurance premium reductions and other ROI on the technology.

I think there's a bit Too much reliance on Technology to solve some of these issues. They seem to more intent on "Dumbing Down" some of the skillsets required, where a bit of Training would go a long way, I would think..

It's not really rocket science. If you want to move them higher, you simply lift them. If you want to lower them, there's a latch at each end of those bars. New trailers have this special tool to unlatch those bars, if you lose it, then it's up to your imagination how do it. :p But you can do it by hand, as long as you are tall. You can remove them completely by lowering them to the lowest point.

    Money, pure & simple...

On a cents per Kilometre basis Drum Brakes are 2/3rds the cost of Disks to operate.

Oxbow, spsauerland and Cat sdp Thank this.
