I am going to take a moment and ask......

What is the motivation for dispatch to keep you moving through the weekend?

You are most likely in the realm of the after hours/crisis management group at this point. Since you are not typically an imminent crisis you are not on their radar or even their top 100 list. Their boss probably does not care as long as the load gets to the yard before Monday so he can hand it (and you) off to somebody else. Main point is, at this time, you are not his problem. And they have better things to spend work time on than giving you a strait answer.

If you drive less hours on the weekend then regular dispatch does not have to manage your 70 as much during the week. Yep your pay check may not be as plump as you would prefer, But that is not their problem.

You see where this is headed right?

Former member @flyingmusician used to say "Got to manage them before they manage you"

I'm taking a 10 and contemplating taking a 34 in Flagstaff at Little America. Temperatures will be in the 50's at night and low 80's tomorrow afternoon. I can't deliver in Amarillo until first thing Monday morning. LA has the best ###### showers of any truck stop, a laundry, leather couches in the driver's lounge...I guess it's a 34 in Flagstaff for me.

I drove from Long Beach to Flagstaff today. My ambient air temperature gauge started showing 100°F+ about 100 miles east of Barstow. By the time I rolled through Lake Havasu it was 117°F.

I must have passed over two dozen trucks with blown tires on the side of the road. Alligators everywhere. A gold Peterbilt 587 that blew past me going well over 70 mph in California was sitting on the side of the freeway with triangles out about mms 20 in AZ. His passenger side steer tire had blown. Hood open. A big hole where his left headlight assembly and steer tire cover used to be. Debris all over both lane. Rim mangled down to nothing.

But "HEY! It's over 100°F and I'm running 75 mph with 80K in the box. What could POSSIBLY go wrong???"

I never post up far away from my drop. Always get as close as possible. Too many unknowns. Post up hundreds of miles or even fifty away, opens the door to being late.

This is where the nicer truck comes into the equation hugely. I never go in lounges at the truck stops anymore. I have internet and TV at my fingertips. Truck is climate controlled. Shower is about the biggest thing. Not a necessary thing for me everyday. In fact the sponge bath in the sleeper still happens.

I haven't brushed my teeth in a truck stop in I can't tell you how long. Just went for a cleaning, in and out in about 30 minutes including the x rays and exam. Dude is like " You really take excellent care of your teeth."
Well if you like pissing away THOUSANDS of dollars at the dentist or enjoy the hygienist scraping on you for an hour, more power to you.

You look at some of these guys. They were just sitting in that chair you're going to sit in. Catch something in there for sure.

I'm good. Ya'll can have my chair in the lounge.

Plus every time you look in the lounge, there's six dudes sitting there watching a Lifetime movie, or Law and Order. Thank Christ I have things to do.

I slept 9 hours straight last night.

Headed to the yard. Can’t wait to see what kind of nightmare is going on with the parking there. It’s embarrassing how bad that yard is.

    I may shoot video.
