Oversized load

I understand that and im just a company driver, i just dont feel it would be worth it.. Ive been looking for companies that is more dedicated around oversize freight to cut my teeth in

 

OSOD is a pain unless you are a solar powered driver.
Some states no Sunday’s, some no weekend that have a holiday attached.
A lot are 1/2 before and after sunrise/sunset only, Ohio is 1/2 hour after sunrise....
Some states will require up to 12 flags, some that you can drive at night require flashing lights that burn through batteries quickly.
Then there is the homework. You can’t deviate from your route, states have limits on truck stops, as in certain distances from the highway.
One state is basically if the truck stop isn’t on the right hand side of the exit, you can’t go.
Then there’s detours..

 

Oversized is not always fun nor easy sometimes you will be pulled into every scale house so the can look at permits and check that your chained correct other times the wont even look at you and it sort of pisses me off after waiting days on the permit and paying for it also you want to check the dates on the permit to make sure they have them right and not for the next day

Fixed it for ya. Not sure what loads would need 12 flags for it when the provisions usually only require the widest points

 

That’s correct, I misstated the state and will have to go back through remits to figure out which one was 1/2 hour after sunrise.
For the flags as well, there was a state that required a total of 12, I will try to find that provision sheet as well.

 

I haven't hauled OD loads since i came off the road last oct. Memory's already faded with some of the provisions. You never forget the experiences though.

 

Off the top of my head I know for sure that Georgia is 1/2 after sunrise until 1/2 before sunset.

Arkansas is exactly Sunrise to Sunset not before of after.

 

My point was that all these states have different rules. Planning is important..

 

I will agree all states have different laws, but I have never had much trouble, in any of them.
The signs we use in Alaska are not legal in any other state I know of, they are too small. You can actually use them without covering your license plate.
We have to have lights at the widest point here and in Canada, if we run nights.
I pulled a small oversize out of here and was checked at the old sheridan main street scale.
When cleared, he told me as soon as I got some oversize signs on, I could leave.
I explained I had them, and he said he couldn't see them. I mentioned that if he would look out his window, he could see them as plain as day. lol
My signs said wide load, which is what I had, but that didn't cut it in WY, at least that day.
My only oversize signs were Alaska and not legal, so I had to walk to the truckstop and buy new signs. lol
