Im not complaining about central, just giving a "heads up" to those who might want to attend their driving school.
I attempted to do the "team driver" thing at central, but I didn't pass the first hour of the class because my blood pressure was too high. Unfortunately I can't try again for 60 days. If you like your personal information to stay private--forget it. The medical and blood pressure is done in full view of the class and other employees. Your information can be heard across the room. That is why my blood pressure was so high and I failed. My partner and I discussed it and he decided to finish the course and continue. So far, he loves it. He is out with his trainer and says he thinks he has finally found the job he wants.
My only complaints are with the recruiters: 1) the schedule the recruiter gives you before you start school (start date, end date, drive date, orientation etc. ) changes, so if you have plans or housesitters etc. make sure you tell them that the schedule is open and you will notify them of changes. My friend had to sit at the school for 3 weeks after graduation before a trainer was available so he could start the driving part of his schooling 2) they tell you during the recruiting phase that once you finish the school; you sign a 1 year contract to work for them. (they fail to tell you that you have to complete the driving and reapply and pass more tests to qualify, then being hired isn't a sure thing. Once you are finished with training, you have to apply for them like you would any other job).
3) Pack a lunch. The meals they have available there are expensive and not fit to eat. 4) Don't take any extras with you. The rooms in the dorm are big enough for a bunk bed and 2 chairs. You share a room, but it's free-so no complaints. 5) It's a fast course, so leave any problems you have at home behind you. If you are serious about driving, now is the time to make your family members independant because you won't be around if you do OTR.
Other than that, I will be going back in June to retry and I think now that I know what to expect; I won't be nervous or upset and everything will be good.
The entire staff at Central that I interacted with and that my friend is still interacting with are very professional and helpful. -
Hi Grandma, and welcome to the Central part of the Forum!
There doesn't seem to be a trainer problem right now more then enough trainers to get students out quickly.
My first piece of advice to anyone is don't believe the recruiter they are PAID to get students.
I have been to the Central cafe a few times for breakfast and yeah its a little expensive but the food was good..........You will find 99.9% of truck stops are a lot more expensive to eat at!
JJ and I when we are out together try stock the truck at wally world once a week, but in saying that we have a power inverter and run a Microwave, coffee maker, Toaster oven and a few other cooking appliances.
Good luck when you go back!!

Congratulations, Chunter!!
Does the Central Cafe still have the black truck coming out of the wall? I always thought that would be a really cool thing to put up in a kid's bedroom. -
Last kid are you on your own yet? If so how are your miles looking?

Bummer. Not going to be able to complete the run tho did most of it. Needed them to change the appt. time by 2 hrs or i wasn't going to make it. Their sol, is to just swap. Just hope I don't have to sit to long waiting on a load.
Was in Mt. Vernon, Il last night. Intersection of 2 interstates and not a frigging signal for my cellphone modem. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!! Hate when that happens.
Hope JJ's clutch is an easy fix. -
Congratulations! That's awesome!
You will have to let me know all the details. -

well i am back at the house for a while been running the east coast for the past month anda half now. i have not been across the mississippi river the whole time out. been stuck in the fla, carolina. tenn .ky, virgina loop. all i hear is man we got to get you back out west oh by the way heres another run to fla 350miles with 5 days to do it. yep i do beleive its time for a new dispatcher. and for all the newbees heres some thing you probablly have not thought of YARDWORK thats right got home to realize that when your on the road there is no time to cut grass trim bushes and all the other stuff that you really dont think about . i have always taken pride and had the best looking yard in the neighborhood. but i got 3 days off and aweek worth of yard work to do dont leave a whole lot of time to do anything else . so get used to a crappy looking yard. hey last kid hows the camaro coming along if i ever get back out to colorado i'll be looking you up maybe i'll have some time to help work on it do a little body magic to it. well give me a shout and let me know how things are going with it.
