Well I'd certainly look hard at it. (not knowing if $27/hr is good or bad for your area).
I do know that the construction equipment movers around here, start real early (before const crews show up) and work real late. Mostly because construction management is a joke (oh we need that moved yesterday. Umm i pulled empty out of there yesterday, you didn't say boo). And also because of oversize curfews in metro area.
And there are some seriously ugly areas to load/unload in. sides of roads, const areas behind barriers, backing into dirt lots (i.e. mud) and someone is always in the way when wide and heavy. Plus you're throwing a lot of chain. I see some guys do it right every time. I see some guys cut corners on chaining because it's just going to that job site down the road. who knows how hard that is pushed.
I'd want to talk to their current equipment drivers, see what they really say and I'd want to see the equipment and the shop.
but it's certainly worth investigating.

Schneider tried it with glass. Then they got out. Now Schneider is trying their hand at tanker. They are bound and determined to prove that you don’t have to pay for talent.
BTW, Swift tried their hand at car hauling. In dry van trailers. Extra tall dry van trailers...and their trucks (semi’s mind you) were rolling around on 2 ton truck tires and wheels. Stupidest thing you’ve ever seen. Can you imagine the claims? Swift drivers loading and unloading cars.Gearjammin' Penguin, cke, PoleCrusher and 6 others Thank this. -

JB Hunt is the latest mega door slammers to get into car haul, they are doing dedicated contract work. They may have a chance at success though since Jonnie Bryant's son (J. Bryan Hunt) owns a large chain of dealerships as well as one or more independent auto auctions, meaning he at least knows the industry.
So many companies see money in areas they know nothing about and end up destroying the market.
My two specialties are facing this right now. Car haul is under attack by pickup trucks and wedge trailers now that we have easy to access load boards for car haul. Towing, my first love, is being attacked by third party dispatch services and with the very low bar to entry anybidy can buy a tow truck and haul cars.PoleCrusher, Hammer166, sawmill and 4 others Thank this. -
