Well I'd certainly look hard at it. (not knowing if $27/hr is good or bad for your area).

I do know that the construction equipment movers around here, start real early (before const crews show up) and work real late. Mostly because construction management is a joke (oh we need that moved yesterday. Umm i pulled empty out of there yesterday, you didn't say boo). And also because of oversize curfews in metro area.

And there are some seriously ugly areas to load/unload in. sides of roads, const areas behind barriers, backing into dirt lots (i.e. mud) and someone is always in the way when wide and heavy. Plus you're throwing a lot of chain. I see some guys do it right every time. I see some guys cut corners on chaining because it's just going to that job site down the road. who knows how hard that is pushed.

I'd want to talk to their current equipment drivers, see what they really say and I'd want to see the equipment and the shop.

    but it's certainly worth investigating.

A few decades ago, Schneider did something despicable and tried to bring their bottomfeeder doorslammer economics into heavy haul. They bought heavyhaul trucks and heavyhaul trailers and tried to corner the market by running for much cheaper than everyone else. Hurt the rates real bad. And of course, as expected, they got out of the business because they couldn’t figure out how to bid to make a profit.

Schneider tried it with glass. Then they got out. Now Schneider is trying their hand at tanker. They are bound and determined to prove that you don’t have to pay for talent.

BTW, Swift tried their hand at car hauling. In dry van trailers. Extra tall dry van trailers...and their trucks (semi’s mind you) were rolling around on 2 ton truck tires and wheels. Stupidest thing you’ve ever seen. Can you imagine the claims? Swift drivers loading and unloading cars.

I can carry 10 all the time depending on the mix. I can fit almost any combination of 7-10 on here. Weight usually becomes a problem before length and height

How do you know i won't make anymore $$. I bet if someone told you the same thing on your way up the ladder you probably would've told them to f××k off. Ego thing?? I'm not much of an ego maniac. I'd just like to try something that seems to be more challenging. I'm just not the sit around a do the same thing just because i can do it type of person.

The guy I talked to with his parking lot tried to avg $10k a week. That is pretty much the highest earnings a week possible as an owner op.

Don’t get offended. I know what a good car hauler can make. And I know what oversize guys make. You definitely need to pump your brakes a minute. There are generally two types of people who get into this. Those who do it because it’s lucrative and those that do it because they want everyone to admire them.

Key word "tried" that has to be an amazing week with every single move being better than the last one. I was in a bs lease purchase deal a few years ago with a car hauler. I averaged just over 36k a month when i worked the entire month. I figured os/ow was the only thing that could come close or exceed a car haulers pay. But i guess not

Yeah, Schneider tries their hand in oil field as well and didn't last long. Right now Swift is still moving vans and doing some car haul, not much but still driving the rates down.

JB Hunt is the latest mega door slammers to get into car haul, they are doing dedicated contract work. They may have a chance at success though since Jonnie Bryant's son (J. Bryan Hunt) owns a large chain of dealerships as well as one or more independent auto auctions, meaning he at least knows the industry.

So many companies see money in areas they know nothing about and end up destroying the market.

My two specialties are facing this right now. Car haul is under attack by pickup trucks and wedge trailers now that we have easy to access load boards for car haul. Towing, my first love, is being attacked by third party dispatch services and with the very low bar to entry anybidy can buy a tow truck and haul cars.

Why pump them? I never released them. You can speak for yourself. You mean to tell me none of you guys enjoy what you do?? I find that hard to believe and as far as people admiring me that s××t doesn't fuel my fire. You may be both of the latter but i'm neither yeah cash is king but it's not the only thing that matters to some.
