You know, I may biotch about my company but they do provide and APU and A/C and heat with it. They didn't say a thing to me about over idliing during the winter when my heater went out. Course the engine did cut off after 5 minutes if you didn't pay attention and hit the accelerator

I notice that no one is talking about big chunks out of paychecks so the idle charge must be small... I hope. I personally wouldn't sacrifice comfort during down time to save a few bucks... I don't think. But then again while driving you can use the full ac but the idle no ac heat time will take the life and energy out of one. This issue is bumming me out.

Most of the Volvo's have the icon so your truck will only idle for a while and then turn of!!rakusa Thanks this.

I know Rhino works hard and complains little. But I on the other hand don't have to smile and drive on.
Like I've said before Central is more worried about getting student fees than taking care of the drivers they have. Don't see that changing anytime soon. I don't understand some of the advertising for Central and only giving the good. I can't complain about the money that is when Rhino has to call 10 times to get his check fixed every week. Looks like if they "cared" about their drivers
they would invest in some APU's and hire competent employees for payroll. But then again that is one of the 2 ways they make their money!
-
JJ has Jackie (Payroll) and he only has to call every now and again!!
No one is saying Central is perfect but it is better then a lot of other training companies.
Read the Werner, Swift and CR England threads and you will see what I mean.
The APU's I agree 100% they should invest in APU's or not have an idle policy. -
I read (here?) that Central's payroll deduct for school is $25 a week/$1200 a year and when you hit 1 year the rest is waived so it's not $3000 for school if you do your year. Is this true?

My friend is currently out training and when he tried to use the card that Central sent with him; (preloaded with $100.00) it said it wasn't valid. He called and the lady he spoke with told him that they can't do anything until he returns to WVC. That could be Goodness only knows when because he is in Ohio, going to New York and He'll bypass WVC and go to California.
He is in training, but he's very embarrassed because he only had $15.00 at the time and that was on Friday. He called me and I deposited $ in his bank account so he wouldn't be broke or sponging off the Trainer.
Are the Trainees expected to pay for half of the room? In the paperwork we received from the recruiter it said that $$ would be taken out of each check to compensate the trainer for any expenses, and to bring $150.00 road money ( to last 28 days?). Am I daft, or is there something else going on? Also, why do you have to be a California Resident to attend the Central Refrigerated School in California? -
Out of Rhino's check they took $23.07 a wk. And yes after the first year the rest is waived. Rhino went O/O and still owed but that too was waived when he signed the lease.
Jess I know what you are saying about other companies. I have read the threads and know that Central has the least amount of complainers lol.
I think a lot get the wrong idea thinking they are about the drivers. The bottom line of course (as in most jobs) is how you deal with what you are dealt at Central. Rhino is very passive but when he needs to be is very aggressive and that Marine comes out in him. But they as a whole aren't concerned with the drivers. They are some FM's that are genuine (a few) but not from the top. It doesn't take long to figure that out. Don't get me wrong. Like I said the money is good when it is right! lol
I am sure Jess will answer this but just wanted to say, they took no money out of Rhino's check while he was training. The trainer paid for all expenses that went along with driving. I know Rhino and his trainer did 20,000 plus miles in his 28 days. And they were out 28 days to the day. I think it's bull about the guys that are out longer (if there is no extenuating circumstances) than their 28 days. Rhino and his trainer told his trainers FM that this is the day I am to be back and they were at Conley on that day. She had plenty of time to make it happen. And she did. She is one of the better FM's.
When you take no for an answer that is what you get. Anyway, sorry to get off track. About the card, I know that Rhino's card was messed up not to long ago (not when training) and she fixed it in the computer. Doesn't make sense they can't now.

utahhomesick and rakusa Thank this. -
Thanks for the reply. I love my friend to death, but I better not be sending money so he can buy gift for his family along the way LOL. Another question for you asked by his wife. If he is close (4 hours away) and stopped for 36 hours, can she go take him for awhile? Since he is training is he consider still training even when shutdown? I see a lot of trucks here in Sin City that have cars parked next to them in a secluded spot and I figure it's family visiting.
-
Sure hope they are family! lol
I went and saw my husband when he was doing a 34 hr restart when he was training. I think their time is their time. I don't think Rhino would have taken to kindly so someone telling him otherwise.
