Well I think the run is legit. I worked their 6 1/2 years and they would hire off the street for local and dedicated runs. . rather then take system drivers off the OTR runs. Plus the local drivers make squat and if they tell you different don't buy it. I worked all of their fleets and local was the lowest paying of them all. You gave up the cash to be home for a few hours a day. The dedicated runs usually required lots of boot licking and log falsification or they would threaten to kick you off the run. Your clean driving record was of no concern when the customers needs needed to be met.
Now if you ran team they had lots of high mile high dollar runs, but you had to be a runner and not a truck stop ##### or a super solo.
The physical capabilities test? Sound like they want to make sure you can lump a load. It's usually some sort of weight lifting and stair stepping and things that test your back and range of movement. You will also have a regular DOT physical.
Also be aware that USX is famous for busing anyone with a pulse to orientation and after the meet and greet they will start to cull the heard. So have your ducks in a row if you decide to sign on to avoid being escorted outside the gate.

USXpress has orientation for three days. You have a series of physical tests, carrying some weight down the hallway etc. no big deal. They spend much of the three days checking your background to decide if they want to hire you. IF they decide NOT to hire you at the end of the three days you will have to pay your own way home. No bus ticket etc. `
Starting out you will get all the crap runs for a couple weeks and then smooth out, but, I don't recommend this company. Try Rehl or anyone else. USX will screw you over and you can bet only the older drivers get the good miles, you will get mostly railyards and crap. I worked for them and all I can say is read the reports that hundreds of drivers write about them. These people are EVIL. -
thankyou. the comments on this site have helped me to make the decision to
stay with the "devil I know"....rather than believe some random promises from USX.Baack Thanks this. -
Good for you, you made the right decision. USX is no good. You obviously have a good driving record since you're still working and you should have no trouble getting in with a reputable company if your present one lets you go. Good luck and safe driving.

Anyone that goes to USX needs their jead examined, This s place is a monster. Stay far away people, quit if you work there. Don't haul their freight, make them go under. They treat their drivers like crap.
If you drivers will stick together and stay away from companys like this after you have been told them they will have no choice but to change or fall under. -
The driver pool from America has been shrinking every year since I started driving. The downturn in the economy and foreign recruitment will make it easy for companies like USX and Swift to find bodies to fill the seats, no mater how bad they are to work for. These companies already have high turnover and know their rep among current drivers stinks. They could care less. They can find people from all over the world who are desperate and exploit them till they are used up or can't pass muster with the insurance carriers.
As long as OTR drivers are payed by a piece rate and companies are exempt from labor standards other employers must follow and the rewards for hiring new drivers from the feds continue, their is no reason for them to change. -
Good choice McGee. Good Luck to you!

I am a current driver with USX and yes they did force drivers to "team, lease, or quit." But that was predominately in FL, CA, and parts of TX. I don't agree with the way they went about it but, I do agree with their reasoning. Freight rates have crashed, and FL and CA are the wors't for rates on outbound loads. It doesn't make sense for a company to run a driver home to those states when they either can't get freight out of the state or can't get freight that pays enough to make it profitable. So instead they decided to offer a team job which is more profitable or a lease in which the financial responsibility for the truck's profitability is on the lessee.
Like I said, I don't agree with the way they went about it (no notice). And I really wish you the best in your trucking future. -
