Turn this around - what would you say about a trainer meeting his trainee and seeing the trainee wearing wearing a cross and a WWJD bracelet. Trainer says he does not feel comfortable with a Christian trainee and refuses the student. Is that acceptable?faux_maestro Thanks this.

Yes it is. This is someone your going to be in very close contact with for at least a month. So either party can back off. They suggest partners for the training session but either can opt out, Now the trainee may have to wait for another trainer but such is trucking.xlsdraw, starmac and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

As a trainer at Millis, idc if hes gay, straight, black, or white but after 2 if my last 3 students I just ask for 1 with some common fn sense that isn't so nervous hes a safety hazard.
Taking a load to Eau Claire Wi and we are leaving BRF from getting fuel. Heading out to 94 and the sign says "94E Madison 94W Eau Claire and my student says "what 1 are we taking"....and he couldn't understand when I wouldnt answer him...
Or we shut down on Sunday night after getting empty. I tell him freight comes out around 0730 in the morning and thats when we will get our next load. So he proceeds to wake up at 0720 and goes into the truck stop to piss and sit down to eat bfast....and acts surprised when I walk into the truck stop at 0735 saying we got a load its time to go...
Or the best 1 yet. Driving on a 2 lane highway and my trainee is so nervous he has me nervous lol. Coming towards us is an oversize hauling the big tractor tires hanging over the edge. "Omg omg what do I do, what do I do"?? I tell him just move to the right a little and give him room....he then proceeds to move the fn truck to the LEFT towards the oversize as I start saying WTF are you doing quite loudly....

I took on a trainee in Denver years ago. Before we made it across the border into Snowville, Utah, I noticed he kept looking at multi-use watch fitted with a compass, etc.
He seemed fidgety, almost agitated. Suddenly, he cried out, in his very broken English and Somalian accent, "WE MUST STOP, MR. *****!"
Why? I asked.
"I MUST PRAY!."
What? If you need to pray, just go into sleeper area, close the curtains and have at it.
"NO, I NEED TO PRAY OUTSIDE" turning the face dial on his watch.
I pulled into the Flying J fuel island. He jumped out grabbing a rolled up throw rug item.
I, along with several other truckers in the fuel island, watched as he lined himself (looking at his watch) up on the sidewalk, threw down what I thought was a throw rug, took off his shoes and began to bow down. Not once, but several times.
Made for an interesting next few days as this pattern repeated itself. My recommendation to the operating center manager was to remove him from my truck and to be "trained" by a local in town driver, which she obliged

I guess when I was training I really did not care much about a lot of things, kind of depended on how they handle it. You know I'm not in it for a relationship, just keep personal stuff personal and well get along just fine.
Funny I actually seem to get along with most real well. Even the same with religion, believe what you want just don't try and convince me your god is right and my God is wrong, cause like political issues I'm right cause I'm right which means all other views are wrong. You know just some subject are better left alone.
I was in the trainer mode to teach them the stuff my Dad taught me that got me thru a lot of potentially bad situations while driving, Most of safe driving happens between the ears bu adjust to things the eyes see before you even know the issue is there. The best accident is the one you avoided with out even knowing because of defensive habits your trainer ingrained into you.
I did have one guy that was real cool until like 3 1/2 weeks, when he came out, I just told him leave this subject alone, finish your 3 days and have a nice life.... actually sadly just found out Jim died about 3 years ago, he turned out to be a great guy except for the one little quirk, He drove for Rocketdyne Simi Valley CA for years after I trained him, Great guy except for the one item. Its easier if you are getting your students after they have already upgraded and you are training them on stuff specific to your fleet. The absolutely horrible ones are all weeded out and you only get the occasional fruitcake that is lazy and thinks he knows everything. But in general they are at least semi-safe to be around.
Thats what I do sometimes whenever the need is there. Its an extra 250 a week. About 750 extra a month. If I got that every week id be close to six figures annual. But still not entirely sure if its worth or not.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I would have to be awful hungry to even consider training for 750 a month, but I wouldn't want to do it at any price, I doubt they would want me to train them any more tan I want to train them either. lol
