Surprised how many people are against doing jury duty...i really thought it was interesting and hope to get asked again.
The first case the guy was so guilty that there was no doubt about it.
The second case the guy was 100% not guilty, and we deliberated for about 3 minutes, and voted unanimously Not Guilty.

 

in my particular situation, many of the court houses are in the "downtown" area. so i could "take the bus" to get there.

we do have some court houses that would require us to driver there, pay for exspensive parking IF WE CAN EVEN FIND parking..

no employer or court reimburses those exspenses, nor your food. the only thing an employer can do and IS SUPPOSSED to do, is hold your job for you..he DOES NOT have to pay you while you are out on jury duty.

jury duty pays (on average) $50-$60 pper day, PROVIDED you were on a case for 10 days or more

who can live on that, when your employer DOES NOT have to pay you..???

so ask yourself this question:

"if i were getting paid $200.00 per day now as a driver, but i was to be paid a mere $50-60 per day sitting on a jury, will i still be able to

1) pay the rent

2) pay the mortgage

3) feed the kids

4) pay my bills

5) buy my beer OVER buying food for the wife, kids

then let us know, how intersting it really is being on jury duty as a working person, NOT a retired person....(like you might be)

 

Are you planning on going to a four month trial?
Most last a couple of days to maybe ten days. So you may need to spend a little from your savings account that month, no biggie.

 

In my state jury duty pays $25/day. My past employer (Averitt Express) pays you the difference between state pay and average daily company pay.

 

then you feel free to go to any and all jury duty calls.

but the average working person simply cannot afford to this this, since NO employer has any obligations to pay the worker. for those companies that do pay, good for them, but those are few and far between the reality that many more, do not.

i also see no reason why a working person has to take money out of his/her savings to support themselves by being on a jury. that's money you'll never get back.

 

then you are lucky, and in a minority.

 

I was called two times for jury in my life time here in Arkansas, that would not really be a problem. Excepting that I was battling Narcolepsy as part of my medical issues in those early years here. My doctor signed the release each time assuring me that its BETTER that I am not in that place with what I have going. Might fall asleep and miss something that might cost the life of the prisoner on trial.

I have never been called back since. And don't expect to be.

And they took care of that Narcolepsy, when they fixed a few problems in the back and neck surgically it made the body strong for the day after a nights sleep and that problem went away.

 

I never surveyed other trucking companies about their jury duty pay. But Averitt was a good company to work for.
