Montana has gotten bad since the oil field slowed down. When the boom out east took off they closed some of their older scales and ended up putting more people in pickups out roaming around. Now that it has slowed all of those roamers have to justify their jobs I guess.

I see said the blind man. The last time I was in Mt was 3 or 4 years ago, and I went down the east side into Id.
That was kind of an outlaw trip, here to Ok, 16 miles north of the Tx line and besides the yukon scales, never went through another open scales, except blew one in Id and stopped at one in Ok. -
What will get you is the Jake noise. People running straight pipes is why you have all those "no Jake brake" areas. I've got good mufflers on my FL Classic, and the Jake is quiet.
Also, a lot depends on what engine you have. We have a 379, 3406b with straight pipes and it really isn't that loud at all. A N14 Cummins with straight pipes is much louder, especially the Jake.
Years ago I had a old single axle IH with 250 Cummins and straight pipes. That thing would make your ears bleed, because it didn't have a turbo to help quieten it down. Old 2-stroke Detroits we really loud too, even with mufflers.FlaSwampRat, stillwurkin, 201 and 1 other person Thank this. -
LOL Try a 2 stroke jimmy with straights if you want noise, you don't even need to use the jake.
My 3606 E is loud, but nothing like a cummins, but there is not near as much jake there either . -
BC Cummins motors had "boom" around 1750-1850,( I think, been a while) right where the motor is happy, and with straights, it's downright annoying.

I love the sound of a V-12 Detroit with straight stacks....on somebody else's truck, and from a distance.
My truck...I want it quiet.201, stillwurkin, Long FLD and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm light weight, tagged for only 50k. Whenever there are no jake signs, or people sleeping, I use my engine fan as a little extra help for slowing down. Just flipping it on actually provides a decent amount of retarding force..FlaSwampRat Thanks this.
