they wanted to ensure that they took good care of thier people, is what i'd surmise. however, sad as it is, many companies don't do that.

they figure you're not working, you're not deserving a paycheck.

    i can understand that.

For me the first time was literally my first day at a new job. This was help desk work (computer repair) that had a three week training course. I could not afford to me off work for three more weeks until a new class started.
The second was in MI less than three months and was in the second week of training. Sure it was only a couple weeks for training, but they only hired about every other month.

I simply could not afford to loose my job. Oh I'm sure in both cases I would have been put in the next class, but it also would have meant a few weeks at least not working.

Our County pays $6 a day. I have been called in six or seven times in the past twenty years. If it is does not sync with my hometime schedule, i just mail it back with a note that i will be out of the state during that time and never hear anything more about it. Of the two or three times i actually went, the cases were dismissed/settled before a jury was needed, so we got our pay and left. Jury pools are needed to keep our court system safe and functioning, but some of the cases brought are just plain silly.

Those are good reasons not to do it.
I'm not saying that everyone should do jury duty, especially if its messing up training, holidays, your wedding or whatever. But the two that i have done were only a four day, and a three day trial. My wife is half my age she has already done it.

A couple years back I recived a jury duty questionaire in the mail for jury duty from Federal District Court for the Western District of Arkansas in Texarkana. I threw it away. Then they sent another one with a "You better return this one" statement on it. I filled it out and sent it in. I was notified that I was on the jury panel for the next 3 months and would be notified when to come in. Never heard another thing.

If justice was administered the way I think it should be, we wouldn't need so many jurors. Of course, the snowflakes would probably start a revolution.

when questioned by both sides of the lawyers regarding how you view arrest, jail court etc...best to just say,
"hey cops don;t arrest innocent people"..

fast way to the jury room to await the end of your time on that duty period..!!
