As for light plains if this piece of equipment is off it will cause the plane to crash. The pilot thinks one thing but he goes by the gauge and the gauge is wrong

 

@exhausted379 and @Westbound23 . They were a couple hippies with a bunch of stickers about meat is bad. Vegan is good b.s. couldn't read one sign the other was how mean it is to the pigs in the heat. @Ruthless exactly right.

 

When I was stationed in Alaska we use to see em on base and in the dumpsters all the time, not to mention out in the wild. Your lucky, they're pretty fast.

The pilots call the Fresnel lens the meatball too. That's more well known in most aviation circles.

But the maintenance types who actually work on the instruments call the horizontal indicator the meatball as well.

Totally separate instruments.
The Fresnel lens is mounted on the flight deck.
The other one is in the dickpit of the aircraft.

Where's @catalinaflyer ? He could explain this better. Or at least not as boring as me.
