The FMCSA doesn't regulate firearms use so you won't find it in 49 CFR. As a general rule, it would fall to the individual states firearms laws over and above any federal laws. Most states require some sort of registration either of the owner of a firearm, or the firearm itself. Once you transport that firearm across a state line you must meet all rules of the new state. Usually that registration begins with being a citizen of that state. While there are exceptions for the transportation of firearms during hunting season e.g. hunting in a different state, however I would find it hard pressed to find a state law allowing a firearm in a truck-tractor with a loaded 53' semi or full trailer with a load of mattresses or watermelons being transported from New York to Southern California and claiming you were going hunting in Wyoming.

The only way I can see the legal presence of a firearm in any commercial vehicle is if you are a legitimate gun dealer with a Federal Firearms License for which you paid $500.00 per year (when I had one it was $50.00 for 5-years but the price was increased about 20-years ago) and you just happened to go to a gun show in California and purchased a Ruger Security Six and you completed and maintained your record of firearms purchases and sales (with an FFL you must maintain a record of all purchases and sales) with you in the truck, and were transporting that wheel gun back to your Indiana Home as Jim Nabors sang 2-days ago,

    Hi,

My name is Shawn, and I have something that I am not sure what to do about. I live in Plant City, FL, and I recently moved here from PA. I attended a school up there in Butler PA, and you would not believe what they turn loose on the road...

I personally, wont drive a truck , as I don't fell that a grand total of 5 logged hours on the road is enough...This school got mad at me because I refused to log my sleeper time as driving time, and I know they are in total violation of just about every DOT rule out there. I could tell you quite a few things, and my buddy is here too, and he got so scared due to his lack of training, he quit driving, and wont drive again. They fudged his papers the same way they did mine...the day you passed your road test, you were out of there...
We never drove a loaded truck, always empty, beat trailers that would never pass a DOT inspection, nor would any of the truck....We could tell you tales.

I used to be a PA school bus instructor, and I gave more road time that they ever did, then some of the instructors yell and scream if you mess up. they are only in it for the $$$, and I know I am scared of what they put out there.

Please PM me, or IM me on aim at svbusdriver,

    Thanks for listening...

PM me and give me the info. I will pass it on to a friend with the Pennsylvania State Police, who works their Commercial Vehicle Unit. I can also forward it to US DOT OIG or one one the FMSCA agents.

You'll need to P.M. him because he only has 6 posts. I think OIG would be the best bet though. Let him/her (whoever it is now) begin the process but it may take longer that way (or at least it would have been so before I retired). Let the OIG start the investigation/complaint & send it to Harrisburg.

You should have seen some of the Congressional complaints we saw. Some of those Congresscritters really asked some dumb questions. I can only imaging what they are now.

DB, you will have to pass the PM through a staff member here. He doesn't have enough posts to get them yet.

Every vehicle I've ever owned get blacked out with super limo. 95% lite blocking. This may sound stupid but IMO it helps at night "at least when other cars are behind you" I will not drive something without tint at night the glare kills my, but I wear sunglasses when it's raining too. REally sensitive to light I guess. Far as backing at night with the tint, Power windows are a wonderful thing.

hey guys, i need a lil help. i was hoping for some help from the dot guys. I was thinking about buying a day cab truck and pulling a dump trailer for a local company. in all reality i wouldn't be going no farther then 85-90 miles and i would be home every night. My question is What kind of paperwork would i have to fill out day to day? I.E. log, pre trip inspection form. Or would i be excepmt because of the local hauling? thanx in advance guys
