Does anyone here drive for UPS, or has anyone? Might have to take what I can get till I have experience on the road. Thank you.

If yu were to get a(full time) job driving for UPS you would want to keep it.... that a whole lot better job than driving OTR...union benefits etc. Might be alittle physical ... but nice money ...
-
unless you've got connections in high places, you'll spend years loading trucks on the dock before you get to drive.
My brother has worked the dock for around 5 years, he's just now finally getting to drive part time when the regular guys have days off. -
PAJ speaks the truth....you have to work in the buildings for half the money for atleast a few years before you can even drive part time
it takes forever to get a full time driving job and get your own route over there
but the money is very very good if you do make it there -
I have to say that it depends on where you live, in a small Service Center, they COULD hire off the street for cars and feeders. PSST drivers can be hired off the street also, i know of one that was.
In larger cities, its like the above posters said. Inside, cars, then eventually feeders. Inside is a bear, ive been there. Better if you are young. -
Well I live near a very small terminal and they are the same way. Have 2 friends who work there that have loaded trucks fro several years and still only drive part time once in a while. I know the one here also only hire part time seasonal help during the holidays and if your lucky you might get to stay on after the holidays part time.

Notice the keyword that i put in caps. They COULD...., in no way did i mean it to be the norm for small SC's.
I guess I should have known it would be misinterpreted. -
I think they have incentives for hiring minorities
My buddy was hired right out of driving school
We have a member walleye who was hired off the street, but was already a experienced driver -
You were not misinterpreted just giving info on what normal was in my area. ANYTHING is always POSSIBLE. Notice the key words ANYTHING POSSIBLE.

yeah the location my brother works at is outside a town of 11,000. He's got almost 20 years CDL experience by the way.
The hiring folks are kinda like military recruiters, they'll lie through their teeth to get ya to come to work. They hired him as a dock worker with promises that he'd be driving a delivery truck in 6 months and a big truck in "a year or 2 tops!" 5 years later he's still throwin packages for peanuts.
I would have quit several years back, but they've got him convinced that the jackpot is just around the corner... any day now he'll be makin the big bucks drivin
