The ex doesn't have to find out. My brother in law lives in his truck on the road and every single paycheck goes into his Comdata account and he keeps it there. He has close to $100k in there not earning interest, but not viewable to anybody. Comdata does not report to the IRS since they aren't a banking institution. Of course, my brother in law is an idiot too.

Thanks my dude I love hearing New Drivers success stories and waking up to this was definitely an inspiration to my day. I'm curious what company are u working for, what are you hauling, and what region of the country are u mainly delivering to?GhentSaintPeters Thanks this.

IF Comdata files bankruptcy his money is toast. Don’t keep more than you can stand to lose in uninsured accounts. That’s why the FDIC and SIPC were created.x1Heavy, tscottme and SteveScott Thank this.

I completely agree. But like I said, he's an idiot.

Wha? Only 10k!?
Do you stop and eat steak from a restaurant for every meal?Aamcotrans Thanks this. -
New driver at mega company gonna gross maybe $35,000. He will bank 10 grand if never goes home.

I _banked_ 35k my fist year at a mega. I ate "out" alot because I was lazy. Spent alot of money on "junk" too. Music and electronics mostly.
I don't see only banking 10k a year as remotely realistic. For someone like the OP with just a phone and $80 a week CS bill. Even if they pay for car insurance/registration fees every year.
Someone with kids and a house payment, yeah.rachi and Kingty9183 Thank this. -
Grossed 59k my first year. Banked 22k after paying off college loans. Didn’t pay attention to my grocery spending, just bought what I wanted. Also a lot of reservation cigarettes.
Aamcotrans and tscottme Thank this. -
You can probably save at a minimum 20k if you are wise with your money. Food is gonna be your biggest expense. My husband and I sold our house and basically live out of our truck. (Raised 5 kids) We are out for 6 weeks home for 4 days.
We have a company truck (Volvo) that has an inverter. On that we have a 3.1 galanz fridge on one side. On the other side we have a 1.6 galanz fridge. The 1.6 is used solely as a freezer. On top of the 1.6 is a 700 watt microwave. We also have a small single (20oz) coffee maker, a 12v hot logic, a small George foreman grill,an air fryer, and a 12v frying pan.
When we go home (one of kids house) the very first day I cook. I make meat loaf, pot roast, chili, spaghetti, sliders, chicken breast, meatballs, omelettes, steaks, Gyros, taco meat, fajitas, carne frita. When I am finished cooking and everything is cool, I divide it into serving sizes. I have a food saver and vacuum seal it. I then put all the food I made (6 weeks worth) in the freezer. Each packet is a meal marked with content, calories, and carb count. (Easy to gain weight on the truck). It freezes solid for the next couple of days waiting to go to the truck.
I also bring eggs, milk, bread, single serve potatoes, vegetables and fruit, lettuce, shredded cheese, cheese sticks, hard boiled eggs. Beef jerky, small bags of chips, lunch meat.
T.V. we have a 13 inch tablet with unlimited data and free netflix (tmobile) and hulu.
