thx for the advice.. -
On the Road, sounds like you should be ready for your first job by now.Even tho you have 6 mos.of school under your belt you will have to go out with a trainer when you hire on with someone. On your list Schneider seems to be a very good place to start. You might wanna ck out Roehl, they are a decent company to drive for. They have a terminal in Fontana ,CA.Stay away from Swift and JB,for sure.Read some of the posts on this site,a lot of valuable info here. Good luck.

I'm with road dog, schneider is probably the best bet, plus they have many divisions to get you better hometime options once you've paid your dues (so to speak). GTI seems like a good company, the few of their drivers I've spoken with seemed pleased with the company.
Good luck, and remember, it will be tough, it will be disheartening, just keep your eyes on the prize (and esp the road!) and shiny side up. -
get your hazmat endorsement. it will open up more days.

You might try CFI, being fresh out of school they will send you to Crowder College in Neosho just down the road from Joplin, MO. for your orientation, lasts a week, put you up in a nice motel, give you 3 squares a day and they have an excellent staff, one of the first things they do is take you on driving course on the property, they built some roads on the premises and see where you stand as far as shifting and all. When I went through, the drought had caused the Dean of the college to shut down the skid pad, but that should be reopened by now. I'm home right now on workers comp, but should be back on the road in a couple of weeks

hey thx alot. I really do appreciate your input..if anyone else is got some other truck companies i should check out...please add them in...
thx again. -
After a couple of weeks of pouring over these posts, I have come to the conclusion that there are 3 companies that stand out for beginers. Im trying to see what popular opinion picks for the top 1 out of those 3.
If Roehl comes out on top its no good for me as they dont hire here(Fl.) but may help others. -
Scarecrow I may have given some wrong advise the other time we spoke. I did some checking about and talked to an o/o the other night at the Pilot in Greenville, VA and he was real helpful tho he had been driving 11 years and had not gone to their school he seemed well informed. and I believe I was misstaken that this may be a choice you want to try. Remember there will be something wrong with any company you go to work for. Go to Learn get your experience pay your dues it all works out in the end..My sister is now in her fifth year as a driver I retrained her after she went to training with USX but she didn't have to pay for school and is doing great right now..Everything is ATITUDE you will go far you have a good head on your shoulders and the right atitude...:smt083

I have never driven for Schneider, but I would have to reccomend them for a beginner. My youngest son got his start with them, several years ago and he has nothing but praise for them.Same thing with the son of a good freind.I have talked with several Schneider drivers out on the road and they seem to be satisfied with Schneider. As NannyB mentioned there are going to be some things with any company that you will not like, but your attitude will have a lot to do with how your career goes.Keep in mind driving is not a 9 to 5 job,it will turn your whole life around. But this is where you have to adapt to it.Many 14 hour days out there, but in the long run it aint too bad. After a couple years of safe driving you should be making some nice fat paychecks.Good luck.
