Beware of Sherman Brothers Heavy Trucking! This goes to all the drivers who are out there in desperation of trying to stay afloat in this economy do not get sucked in by all the pretty songs that their website and recruiter will sing to you. Currently they are not running their owner operators who are coming in the negative or at a flat zero every settlement and even some of their company guys are going bankrupt working for them. But yet they are still hiring new drivers and advertising that they will take owner ops. I could give you a huge story supporting my claim beyond what I just said but please from one person in the trucking industry to another stay away no matter how hard it is you are better off going to Swift at this point.

Wow, sorry to hear of your bad experience there. Hope you find something good soon.

I know guys who are running maxi-flats doing alright for them still. Not everyone's story is the same nor do they have the same economic background as the next driver.

Warning! Warning! Bad news company!! During orientation you get to stay in a bunkhouse, no less. Turnover is probably well over 100%, as they run new driver classes every week. Some other things to think about, they want to charge you for your winch bar up front (not legal, as it is a tool required for the job) on the assumption you will lose it before too long. To ad insult to injury, their fueling program requires you to use a specific location for a specific amount of fuel, as little as 31 gallons, then journey down the road to the next cheapest fuel, where you might be allowed to put on another 33 or some other crazy amount and this can go on for the whole trip (or your whole career with them)! Of course, whether or not that gets the driver a free shower isn't any concern of theirs, or the fact you have to use on-duty, unpaid log book hours to keep stopping to fuel isn't their problem, either. It gets worse, but by now you get the idea, run away from this company as fast as you can!!

Again....
Why do people spend more time researching that new car or that new sound system more than they research a prospective employer?
I googled "Sherman Brothers Heavy Trucking" and came up with a plethora of websites.....
Do the research....
Ask the drivers you see at truck stops, rest stops ect.....
All before you sign on the dotted line folks....
Ask questions during the interviews as well...
Interviews are not one-sided...you are "interviewing" your prospective employer.....
Be smart........it's your life.....superflow Thanks this. -
Also...I would like to see what a company rep has to say.......
Mods...are there ways for companies on the "Bad Lists" to defend themselves on this board????? -
I agree you should thoroughly research any prospective companies. The sad thing about Sherman Bros. is that before the economy tanked they where THE company to work for on the west coast. We where personally referred to them by a previous owner op and a current one at the time. If you could get in with them you where living it up. But then the economy turned and they used any possible thing they could to cut costs or to gain extra money by putting it on the owner ops. In some aspects it's understandable to try to regain some money here and there by making adjustments but they've done it to the point that no owner op can survive.
We have been lucky enough to get a bail out from one of our family members to purchase a truck and move on to another company and leave our Sherman Bros. lease behind. But I still see a few owner ops and things are really bad to the point that these guys can't put food on their tables. And as of right now all Owner Ops are under review, in other words they are finding anything and everything to get rid of each and every one of them. I'm glad we got out before this because we knew this would happen. -
Sherman Brothers bought out TCT Trans Continental trucking out of boise idaho this last august or september, and now you have to apply with sherman brothers to get on there. TCT used to be a good outfit but not sure its that way now.
