    so folks,
    here is the deal...
i have 17 months OTR and my last job at Barr Nunn fired me for idling the truck more than they wanted me to and now i have had several companies flat out tell me they wont even look at my application because i was terminated!!! now, this seems rediculous to me...i worked for CRST for 13 months and quit with adequate notice and went straight to barr nunn, now i am being blacklisted from the entire trucking industry!?

does anyone have any suggestions, will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately in this recession this is happening. Companies are leaner and need to save wherever they can. Most companies have implemented idling programs and if Drivers can't meet it, they're terminated. (My company terminates after 6 months if no improvement is seen). For right now, it is a fact of life and may be the new standard, even in a good economy. (My company has had an idling program since at least Nov, 2002).

As far as not finding work cause of a Termination, (advice from my Recruiter after asking cause a former Driver with the Company wanted to come back): try to get on with a smaller company and get at least 6 months in and keep a clean record. It was also mentioned that Companies do not care what the termination was or want details of what it was. The word "Termination" disqualifies anyone from working.

Look in the Want Ads of your local paper and their on-line version. Look through the Yellow Pages of your local phone book. Hook up with an Owner-Op who has a small fleet and own authority. Some of these maybe leased to a company also. If you do the latter, keep good records cause since they are small, they don't report anything to DAC usually. Therefore, keep pay stubs, contracts, insurance papers, business cards of your employer, anything for prove that you worked for them.

It will help if you tell us where you live. Most small companies only hire people local to their area.

Look at the grocery haulers such as c+s whole sale, Rich foods, Sygma, Acme, etc. Last I heard Webster trucking has the contract for C+S Wholesale and offers decent pay from what I heard. The equipment isn't the greatest either but a job is a job. They are usually night time shifts and handling freight is part of the job.
