We did a load for a company in February and can't get paid.
We are not getting payment from them as they haven't been paid by the Shipper who booked the freight.
Apparently they have some issues between them currently so the shipper isn't paying them.

Upon calling the shipper to try to obtain payment, they said that it is an issue between us and the other company who contracted us to haul the freight, hence no payment for our services.

Is there a specific legal clause somewhere regarding freight charges and payment liability that I can quote the shipper so that we can get payment?:biggrin_2552:

    Thanks

Letter from a lawyer will cost $50 might rattle the carriers cage.:biggrin_25516:
You need to go after carrier, not shipper as your contract (agreement) was with them.

Lawyer may see it differently, worth the $50 fee.:biggrin_25525:

I may just cc our lawyer in my next correspondence with them....

This is starting to become a norm for a lot of companies....re 'I'll pay you once I get paid"....

    We're starting to feel like a bank:biggrin_25510:

$50.00 fee to a Lawyer will not get him to fetch the coffee let alone get a letter, third party billing / paying can drag out for a long time.

Had 1 load into Toronto like yours took 18 months to get it settled.

I hope you got a advance on the load. when ever I hauled a load, if I didnt know a hole lot about the co I would always get all I could get wether I needed it or not, because it might be awhile before you see any more.

We never had a problem with the broker prior but apparently the Shipper & them have some legal issues, hence they haven't been paid.
The Broker did send us a cheque yesterday, finally.
Of course, I'm still dealing with another Shipper regarding a similar issue.
    It's very frustrating....the whole domino effect:biggrin_25510:
