I am a meat and potatoes kind of girl, but I also love fruits and vegetables. I was probably the only 7 year old on the block that would willingly eat spinach, green beans, and broccoli. :yes2557:That said I don't get or perhaps I just don't want to be bothered acknowledging most of the pro-vegan/vegetarian arguments I have heard. I don't get why people who don't eat meat are always so holier than thou about it. They are worse than born-again Christians prosletyzing at a revival meeting. :yes2557: If meat weren't so easily accessible and tasty, doing w/o it wouldn't be so hard to do. :yes2557:

I don't know any vegetarians who get enough protein in their daily diet. They all take a multitude of vitamin and mineral supplements. :biggrin_2552: I don't like taking pills unless absolutely necessary. I bet if they ate just one cheeseburger a week they could eliminate at least 3 pills. :yes2557:

When I was in grad school back in the mid-90's I was almost a vegetarian. Not because I was concerned about slaughterhouse practices but because I was so poor I couldn't even afford ground beef. :frown: I lived on cheese omelets, PB&J, spaghetti with marinara, and kielbasi which I would get really cheap at the farmers market. At some point during that year I developed a hyperthyroid disorder which in retrospect I attribute to the lack of beef and chicken in my diet. :biggrin_25510:

Sorry, I'm rambling, my point and I do have one; is that I believe meat in some form or fashion to be an important part of the human diet. :biggrin_25525:

I even make choc cream pie out of protein powder...they are sooo yummy....choc chips on top of the whip cream and choc and carmel drizzled on top!!! Gotta have that protein..so ya gotta eat some meat too....or cott cheese..or peanut butter....

I don't consider myself to be on a special diet. I have been a vegetarian since I was around 10-12 years old. I am now 50. I don't even think of meat as a food choice, except when reading all the ingredients on food labels. I tried vegan for about a year and decided it was not for me. I guess you could call me a picky vegetarian. I don't eat eggs unless they are in something and I don't see them, I don't drink milk but if it is in something that is okay. I eat butter and no margarine. absolutely no gelatin, fish, poultry, or any kind of meat flavorings. I only eat cheese that does not contain animal rennet. Of course that is just me. I am over-weight and I have high BP (I like the salt) But my HDL cholesterol is very good (86). I think it is just an individual thing. I get plenty of protein.

One more thing, I think the slaughtering of meat has become more cruel over the years as demand for food, and greed for more money has grown. I truly believe if a person eats meat they should be aware of where it came from and only buy from local farms where it is not so much an assembly line operation. Just my opinion, and no offense to anyone who thinks differently :)

Man is built to eat meat.

Look at your teeth.

That, and we seem to be able to digest meat just fine.

Aluminum cans? not so much.

Nothing wrong with my teeth, and I have never tried to digest aluminum. I would not even try. This woman has done very fine without eating meat. You can get protein from other sources.

I like meat. I eat meat. I ate meat today and I'll eat it tomorrow. I love red meat and bacon is my favorite meat of all.

My cholesterol is 129 and my triglycerides are 57. Muwahahahahahahahaha

Not your specific teeth, the teeth of humans.

The four different types of human teeth are :

[IMG]INCISORS or Cutting teeth
- The 8 incisors are the very front human teeth with rather flat surfaces, a straight sharp horizontal edge for cutting and biting the food and one long, single, conical root. [IMG]CANINE teeth
- The 4 canine teeth are very strong, pointed corner teeth for tearing and shredding, placed laterally to each lateral incisor. They are larger and stronger than the incisors.
- The canine tooth morphology is characterized by the large, conical crown which projects beyond the level of the other teeth and one single root, longer than all other human teeth types.
- The upper canine teeth are sometimes called eyeteeth.

[IMG] [IMG]PREMOLARS or Bicuspid teeth
- The 8 premolars, used for the chewing of the food, are placed lateral to and behind the canine teeth, with a flat upper surface and 1-2 roots. Their crown has two pyramidal eminences or cusps. [IMG]MOLARS or Molar teeth
- The 12 molars are the back human teeth. Molar teeth have a much different tooth morphology with large and flat upper surface and 2-4 roots. Molars is the one of types of teeth with the largest of the permanent teeth, used for the final chewing and grinding of the food before swallowing. (mola is the latin word for mill).
- The third molars are also known as wisdom teeth.
