Wondering what others do on fire retardant clothing?
Yes I have a pair of coveralls. Have more coming from the company. A couple shirts also.
But with the shirts? Jeans ok.
Buying other shirts?
Have to admit. The coveralls are pretty comfortable.
Do I really need to spend the expensive price of this official fire retardant clothing? Is it really better than just 100% cotton?
What about winter wear?
I have a great coat and bib overalls for winter. But they're cordura nylon shell. Not good. Yes could just wear the fire retardant coveralls over them. They are Carhartt's Polar Wear. They change the name. Extreme wear now? Arctic wear? They're the black ones.
Even Carhartt's regular orange stuff. Imagine the shell is good for fire. But the inside is still polymer.
When I worked in electricity. Always wore cotton. It's fire "retardant". Anything polymer just melts. Makes it worse. I've seen it. Not good.

Leather is fire retardant.
So are classic Carhartt stuff.cjb logistics Thanks this. -
All FRC approved clothing will have the FRC tag on it. Without the tag you are subject to being asked to leave. Many with a do not come back !!
SavageMuffin, okiedokie, Crude Truckin' and 1 other person Thank this. -
Depends on who you're servicing. The Red Army just cared about tops (or didn't look too closely at pants) so I had an oversize long-sleeve tee that went over everything including winter jackets. If I'd stayed I'd have bought some dungarees as well as a jacket.

Where are you working at that demands fire resistant clothing?
I personally hate carhartt clothes...so stiff and uncomfortable. -
I Stick to Hauling Non-Flammable Raw Milk. Problem solved.

Oh and let those NutJob fuel haulers on a Mission blow by me and get some Football fields between us
MartinFromBC Thanks this. -
We haul a lot of fuel, and i have been hauling it myself since i was 19, so 33 years. Never once at a tank farm or refinery was told i had to wear fireproof clothes. Hard hat, safety glasses, and steel toed shoes or boots, don't smoke, and truck is shut off while being filled. Placards need to be correct, truck grounded, and radio shut off. But never a single word about fire proof clothing.

Summer time, I have thin Ariat, Bulwark and Carhartt button up western shirts. I have some thicker ones too that I wear in the winter.
Pants, Wrangler cowboy cut and Carhartt carpenter pants. I wear them year round.
Coveralls, large assortment at home. I keep a couple pair in the truck so I dont get mud on my nice clothes if need be. Nice to have backup FR just I'm case too.
Winter, I wear Under Armour underneath my summer clothes. I also have quite a few pairs of insulated coveralls, of which I keep 1 pair in the truck in the winter for emergencies. I also keep one of my insulated FR jackets in here for the winter.
I've been at this for well over a decade, so I have quite the collection of FR clothing. Lol!WesternPlains Thanks this.
