I’ve rebuilt a few but seems like the rebuild never got me the end result I was looking for. Still too much slop. I ended up putting a new Jost on. They’re solid.
Edit: Being the 5th wheel you can’t take any chances and if you rebuild it wrong and trailer comes off and kills somebody then guess what it’s your ###. Or lose a load and tear up a trailer. Just seems like something to have a professional do having done it myself and had it done.

I was able to adjust it and take some slop out of it but like I said earlier, I’m going to be looking for a new plate here shortly. Anyone have good or bad luck with the greaseless plates?
PE_T Thanks this. -
Greaseless works great, if you pull the same trailer all the time. If you ever pull another trailer that has grease on it, it can turn into a big mess.

I pull the same trailer so no drop and hooks. I’m leaning more towards the greaseless but they are proud of them darn things!

If you pull the same trailer then greaseless is well worth the money. If you do upgrade to one make sure you clean all the grease off your trailer too. Just put a little bit on the pin itself.

Okay, I appreciate the response. When I replace the fifth wheel plate, are their other bushings or pins that should just be replaced while it’s all apart? The truck has 600,000 it and and I bought it used at 521,000. I just don’t want to put a new plate on and then have to take it back off to replace bushings or pins if that makes sense. Especially if they don’t cost that much to just replace and have a piece of mind

Just the bushings that the pins go thru and new pins also check for play in the slide locks.

Sounds simple enough, thank you for all the advice!

I went with the Atro polyurethane bushing kit on mine, comes with the pins to. It was around $80

Any ideas out there on a good place to buy a greaseless Holland? Pricewise, how much more are they?

You said you pull the same trailer, so you could also get a standard (greasable) top-plate and put the circular nylon disc on the trailer. It’s a disc about 2’ dia w/ hole in center. Mounts around kingpin and held in place w/a spring clip. I’ve used those for years.
