My only knowledge of the term "meatball" or just "the ball" is exclusive to aircraft carrier operations and is a fresnel lighting system used to guide the aircraft landing to the 3rd cable. I know aerial refueling uses a similar system and may also be referred to as the ball or meatball.
In commercial/civilian aviation I've never heard that term. The artificial horizon indicator, or simply gyro, is a gyro stabilized instrument that provides visual reference to the aircraft's relation to the horizon in both roll and pitch in degrees.
There's a second instrument called the turn and bank indicator that assists in making coordinated turns using basically a ball in a curved tube for yaw coordination, often referred to as a "slip ball". The instrument, when used to make a coordinated turn will take 2 minutes to go a full 360 degrees. On some much faster planes this is calibrated to 4 minutes for 360 degrees.
On helicopters and gliders pilots will often tape a piece of yarn to the windscreen for reference to coordinated flight, if the ball or yarn is off center you "step" on it, push the rudder pedal that the string/ball is pointing at. Or in the case of V tail Bonanzas, ignore it and ride the waddle because you'd be peddling a bicycle trying to keep it centered.

KW comes pretty close......... well, as long as you don't sleep where the rain comes through to the inside.

AFAIK, we only have 2 hydraulic RGN's left and they rarely leave WA/BC, all the rest are mechanical. I've pulled one in almost 8 years and that's because we couldn't permit the weight on 2 plus a flip so had to take one of the 3 axles and add a flip. We rarely ever move anything that heavy anymore.

Last time time water dripped in my face I was in that Gray Shaker out in Illinois delivering cross members. For sure a rude awakening lol.

Sale barn food is great. The crowd is usually better there too.

I prefer to think that at a little over $180k for these new KW's they have added indoor showers not forgot to bond the sleeper cap to the cab cap.
