    Heya guys,

I seem to have run into a roadblock - I have a great work history, am college educated, have a clean driving record AND no arrests or anything else bad in my history, yet I can't seem to find a company that would be willing to hire me, put me through their own CDL training and into a driving contract simply because I chose to move to Florida five years ago.

I have talked to Prime and England trucking, yet I can't seem to get a break merely because I live in Florida. I have explained to both companies that, if hired, I fully promise to move to the msot advantageous location to train, then work, for their company - but still they refuse to discuss it until I move states.

I've been wanting to drive truck for a while now, but do need a little help getting my CDL (I'm great in school, but making terrible wages at the moment, so I can't afford a CDL).

Is there any company I could apply with?

    Thank you.

Your best bet is move out of Florida, there very few also none companies hiring new drivers out of trucking school. It even hard for drivers with 6 months experience to fine work here.Last time I check companies thay may be hiring drivers are drivers that live north of Tampa or north Florida. Its real bad here,I live about 40 miles south of Tampa and the only trucking jobs I found where you need at lease 2 or 3 years of otr experience. Its real bad here in Florida, thats why im moving back up north in few weeks. This is one reason im moving out of florida there no JOBS! I even look for jobs working in food stores and or what ever I can get.Best bet is to move, that just my opinion.

I concur with those that say move. IMO avoid any state that had a big housing boom/bust. CA, AZ, NV, FL.

Has nothing to do with the licenses.. They are just not hiring out of florida. There is little to no frieght going in and out of that state and they have no way to get the driver home and they are not going to let the driver dead head that far home.

Well, that's the story they give... but I've spoken to enough of them and had a few open up to me.

Apparently native Floridians have a terrible track-record for being hired, getting their CDL then moving back to Florida.

If it was really the frieght issue, the employers would still take people up on it if they were willing to change addresses and state licensure upon being hired - as I fully explained I was.

Employers hiring from different states could still do a background check and offer employment to someone who was / is fully willing to move to a productive-trucking-route state, yet none (thus far) are willing to do even that. It is a form of discrimination that may catch up with the companies after a while.

That I could get out of them, they'd tell me the 'freight' lie over and over again even when faced with 'I'll move permanently if hired.'

So I'm looking for other options now. Thanks for the replies, guys.

My current student is also from Florida. There are a few that may. They asked him to use an addy outside Florida and we were able to hire him based on that addy. He said Swift and Werner were also talking to him tho.

I do see lots of local gigs but most of the time you have to have anywhere 5+ years experince.I havent seen much in the pass few months but I do recall seeing job openings for local jobs, but I found these jobs where paying low pay plus its hourly.I went to a temp serivce the other day for a local cdl-a drivers wanted ad,and when I when to apply,it was hauling dry chemical pruducts which you need a hazmat endorsment and the pay was only $13.00 bucks an hour.Hours werr 40 hours a week,I was going to apply but they wanted min.of 5 years experience which I dont have yet.My point is the local cdl-a jobs here in Fl well near tampa bay area but the pay is low.Personaly I would took the job but I dont have hazamt endorment and 5 years experience yet.
