hi, what is involded in doing an overhead on a 3406e? details please.
I do vavle adjustment on my race engines all the time, I'd just like to be able to do it myself on my race car hauler.

Not to much different. The injectors take a special tool. Most of the time I find the inj. are in spec the intake is 15 thousands. Jake and exhaust are 30. Back off the jake befor adjusting the valves. Do you know how to pin the motor at top dead center?

I have done several Cat tune-ups. Cats actually have a 0.006" tolerance for their valve lash. Intake spec is 0.015", but right in the manual it says anything from 0.012"-0.018" does not require adjustment. Exhaust is 0.027"-0.033", spec is 0.030". Because of this we don't see too many out by much. I would leave it alone unless you are seeing a change in power or fuel economy. Other wise you have to pin the engine and follow the sequence. My books are at work, I don't know it off hand, but you should have someone give you the proper sequence if you really want to do it.

I don't know how to "pin" the motor, I take it is bringing each cylinder to power stroke so the valves are closed?

Last two hunting seasons we stayed in the old Harpers assisted living house and eat at the the come back cafe several times. To pin the engine there is a hole in the flywheel housing on the passenger side of the engine. remove the plug, take 9/16 wrench, stick a 3/8s bolt in and hold pressure on the bolt, bar the eng in the direction of eng rotation. If, if the flywheel is installed correctly, the bolt will drop in a hole in the flywheel. Check you valves to see if #1 are loose or #6. On #1 adjust 1,2, 4 intake, 1, 3, 5 ex. adjust #3,5,6 inj. adjust jakes on same cyl as ex. #6 tdc adj #3,5,6 in, #2,4,6 ex, #1,2,4 inj, jakes same as ex. Do you know of any availible hunting land around Tignall?

The plug for the timming pin is actualy a 5/8 wrench. The bolt beside it is a 9/16. also the bolt nees to be about 3" to 4" long.

Hey Booboo, I havent been back to Tiganll in 2 years, now in Winder.
Plus I never paid any attention to the hunters or there corner store conversations, I know most would go hwy 17 north but exact spots I don't know, sorry for my lack of hunting info....
"bar the eng in the direction of eng rotation" means using a long breaker bar on some rotating engine part to help spin it manually? if so where?

Use a long 1/2 in racthet and a shallow 15/16 socket and use one of the bolts in the balancer on front of crank.
