Does anyone know anything more than the basics concerning the Schneider 5-week tanker training in Houston, TX? It looks as though that may be the only way to get in to tankers as a new CDL driver with no experience. I've applied to several companies, but not really expecting to hear anything back. I know they pay you while in school and I think they run regional routes if I'm not mistaken. Any insight into to this or knowing of other ways to get in to tankers otherwise without experience would be greatly appreciated..

Suoerior Carriers hires new drivers. I think they now have a driving school too.

Thanks Chinatown for your quick responses to questions. Have to try to sort out all of this by the end of the week. I will definitely check with them tomorrow. First I've heard of CTL Transportation. Closest terminal to me is Charlotte, NC. And yes, I know it's tough, but just trying to find a tanker company that will train me straight out of school. Really don't want to do flatbed the more I read.

I think CTL tanker training is in Florida.
They haul a lot out of Savannah.GamecockBill Thanks this. -
If you can get on with Superior Carriers go ahead and do that all you will do at Schneider is sit around at OCs getting paid $65 a day

I did the school at Houston 10 months ago. They feed you subway everyday for lunch and you get a breakfast sandwich from the hotel. The first day they give you a physical even if you already have a medical card. Then a lot is laptop videos and quizzes. Then you spend a day in teams of 4 doing pump unloads 1 day and air the next. Then you go on your drives with a trainer with your team in your truck and drive around houston traffic and practice backing. Then at the end of the training you get placed with a different trainer and test out with them only doing driving and inspection. You do all that testing on pumping #### at your home OC when you finish your 2 wk time with a driver trainer going out doing real deliveries. Luckily superior emailed me today because I'm leaving these cheap ######## after I get my final signing bonus money.GamecockBill Thanks this.

Trimac, Gemini (aka Loves), and superior carriers all take new CDL drivers. There are more in the tanker world that you could try also. It's a case by case basis at some outfits. Dont get discouraged because they require experience. Apply anyway, and sometimes the company will give CDL hrads a chance.
As for the big orange tanker division. I had a friend the went through there training this spring. And he said it was very unorganized and the pay was crappy. And I also had a friend at nalco in Houston. And he stated that nalco would give Schneider more work if they were on time and stop screwing up. Also 2 former coworkers were at Schneider before and said that there tanker division was the bottom of the barrel.meechyaboy and GamecockBill Thank this. -
Just curious if Houston is your home OC? I live in Houston and I'm considering Schneider tanker so obviously that would be my base. Were you disappointed w/ the miles, the starting cpm or both? I've heard some really weird things about the disorganized dispatch as well?
I've heard the Schneider tanker training is some of the best industry HOWEVER the problems seem to come once drivers get on their own. I keep reading the dispatch is really disorganized so people end up sitting a lot waiting on loads which obviously cuts into their weekly miles AND the starting cpm is low on top of that issue? Curious what the people you know said about that part?GamecockBill Thanks this. -
Unfortunately CTL Transport didn't have anything near me available. Trying to talk with Superior Carriers. Schneider tanker division seems to not be quite what I thought. Lots of negative comments.
