It is recommended to call the police if you are having trouble with traffic and cannot get backed in but most drivers don't do it because they don't want to sit and wait. They just go for it resulting in accidents and upset 4 wheelers. It's the same principal as getting out and looking when you are backing up. How many drivers actually take the time to do it versus the number of drivers that think they can back it in there and end up hitting something.

I hear that. Better safe then sorry. -
I'm on Family Dollar. I go to Chicago every Monday. I would guess on average I have to back into a store (or worse an alley) off the street at least once every other week. I DO NOT have the time to wait for the cops. I either call the store manager before I get there or go in and drag him/her out and have them block traffic for me. Sometimes I get lucky and a pedestrian or fellow truck driver will assist in blocking traffic. Drivers on FD account are under serious pressure for being on time. 3 lates in a year and off the account. Say you are late for your first appointment for what-ever-reason, well if you are late enough it could cause you to be late for your next 2 appointments and there goes your job. See I live in Michigan and there is no other accounts to get on right now so I would be as good as fired. Others may still be able to get on 48 stare or something like that but in this economy I wouldn't count on it.
Now I don't go and blindly trust anybody when it comes to having them block traffic for me. I still GOAL even while backing in off the street, even with someone blocking traffic for me, even with A-Hole Chicago drivers honking/yelling at me. When I goal (I do it a lot) I RUN! See it does no good to be on time if you cause any damage cause you're over confident or too lazy to GOAL. Drivers on this account are getting fired for ANY chargeable damage.
My buddy on this account has called the cops quite a few times to either back him into a store or back him away from a low clearance and has waited up to an hour for them to show. He still has his job... but just BARLEY!

I believe in GOAL.
I don't believe Werner paying a plane ticket to recover a truck. It is more like Greyhound. -
When I had to recover my truck they would not let me do a plane ticket or rent a car. I even offered to pay for the plane ticket or car rental myself 100% no reimbursement and they still said no. I had to ride a Grey dog from Fontana, Ca to Grand Junction, Co. Oh, I was also required to log the trip on the Grey dog on line 4 and fax the paper log into Omaha.

when I have went with my dad on his DG deliveries, and he only deliveries Texas,Oklahoma,New Mexico,Arizona, and Kansas some times. Lucky we haven't had this problem since it isn't so congested. Unloading the truck at stops sucks in the summer, but luckily I am there to help him out. We are in and out! Locked ####ed ,and ready to rock .

I wouldn't tell too many people you help him unload the trailer. He can get in trouble if Werner finds out. Also, If you get hurt while in the trailer it won't be covered under his insurance.
