In reply to the driver that works for USX and posts comments that they were justified in their policy of dropping the florida drivers just because they wouldn't switch to team driving or lease a truck has obviously not been screwed yet by USX. You'll be singing a different tune when they stick it to you, sooner or later. You also have obviously never "teamed" or "leased" a truck. There are only a very small percentage of drivers that are able to make one of these options a success. In order to make any money at either option you will seldom ever see any home time and it takes an extremely talented and dedicated individual to succeed at these two options.
I hired on in good faith as a "solo" driver and expected USX to keep their word. At least they could have given me a load towards home to help offset the cost of a 500 mile trip in a rental. There's a USX terminal in Orlando, just 35 miles from my home. They gave me my ultimatum and when I said "no", they simply escorted me off the property in Tunnel Hill, Ga. and said "Find your own way home". They also fought my unemployment saying that I just "Quote": Up and quit for no reason. Fortunately florida is aware of their actions and I got my unemployment but not without them appealing (which they lost a second time). I could go on but it is just more of the same. I will say that when you have been around longer you will realize that not all companies are liars, and USXpress is in a league of it's own---- Most people consider USXpress in the "SCUM BAG" league.

USX is a business. The purpose of a business is to make money. That, especially in these economic times, may involve difficult decisions. You were offered parallel employment but choose not to accept. Like I said before, I don' agree with them not giving any notice, but you did have the choice. I know...you had your wife and dog with you but you could've sent them home and teamed until a better job came around.
As far as I am concerned, you did quit. FL, GA, and TN are all "right to work states" and thus, you are hired at will and can quit or be fired at will. You were hired to drive a truck. You choose not to team. The key word is choose. Getover it and quit your dang whining.
By the way, the "terminal" in Orlando is an Xpress Global facility not a USX terminal. They are our LTL division. Trucks are not issued, serviced nor turned in there. Therefor, you still would have to turn your truck in at Tunnel Hill or at Ellenwood.Last edited: Jun 1, 2009

Actually, Carolina Viking sounds very much like a "RECRUITER" for USXpress. You simply know too much about the "rules" for someone who is still a green pea driver. 6 years driving experience and you've "teamed" and also "leased" ??? You haven't driven long enough to do all these things and you certainly weren't successful at any of them if you only lasted that short time. Plus, I'm not "whining", I'm doing my best to tell the truth and warn anyone that wants to listen that USXpress and it's anonymous "Recruiters" that are pretending to be drivers, that this blog doesn't even allow USXpress to advertise here because they are such SCUM BAGS to their drivers.
I suggest you get some real trucking experience before you play the part of "know it all" which certainly suggests you are simply a USX recruiter. Have a nice day. -
As far as my lease was concerned, yes I was successful but as an industry news junkie, I saw the bad economy coming and sold the truck to another driver.
As far as teaming goes, I teamed for 3 years with my wife and averaged 7000-7500 mi per week. The only reason we don't team now is that she came off the road to take care of her grandmother.
I simply am informed. My former fleet owner is no the directer of loadplanning and as a friend that has allowed me to get to know corporate staff that others may not have the chance to know. It's also amazing what you can learn when you stay updated on industry news thru various publications.
So, am I a recruiter, no. Would I reccommend this company, yes. As I've stated several times, it was a business decision that lead you to your predicament, and your choice was to walk. A business's only purpose is to make a profit. Imagine that, a company that want's to make money.
Because I have educated myself, I can make these statements, but will never profess to be a "know it all." I srtive to learn every day.
GET OVER YOURSELF! Have you nothing better to do than call a company a "Scum Bag" rather than have a logical fact based debte rather than one solely based on the emotions of a bad experience.
BTW, my truck # is 71208 and I'm northbound 75 coming into Atl heading for Rome, not behind a desk. I've had a desk job and just can't take being cooped up in an office. -
I am a current driver with USX and yes they did force drivers to "team, lease, or quit." But that was predominately in FL, CA, and parts of TX. I don't agree with the way they went about it but, I do agree with their reasoning. Freight rates have crashed, and FL and CA are the wors't for rates on outbound loads. It doesn't make sense for a company to run a driver home to those states when they either can't get freight out of the state or can't get freight that pays enough to make it profitable. So instead they decided to offer a team job which is more profitable or a lease in which the financial responsibility for the truck's profitability is on the lessee.
Though your theory is articulated well, it is bogus.
Many companies haul freight in those states and are not forcing their drivers to team.
If you like USX great, but as a former long time employee of USX I really did not know how bad they where till I went elsewhere to work. Lying constantly to your drivers while claiming that they cared about them is just one of the sick things this company propagated.
I could sit here for hours and tell war stories about USX, but trust me, if you don't team stay away from this carrier unless they are a last resort.
By the way why would anyone want to run teams under the current log system? 10 hrs bouncing in the bunk? Sure

If you leased for USXpress #1 they do not give you the miles to make it. All for them,!!

Be glad you got out while the getting is good. All the big companies seem to be pulling crap on their drivers. My friend work for a small time outfit, and they were only giving him 1 run a week towards the end. He just went to Arctic express. I hope all works out well for you !
