its more than just GB/SEM, If you need a questionable tire replaced go to a wingfoot. They will GLADLY change ANY tire with the minorest of defects.

I was on the phone with sem a while back, outside tire blew but inside tire was shaped like a stop sign with the low spots being past all tread but not to the cords. SEM would not allow the TA to replace the inside tire even though the service manager at the TA told sem that it was not legal in any way or safe for that manner. The guy at SEM said as long as the "new" outside one was at full tread the inside tire didnt matter how little of tread it had:biggrin_2551:. I was thinking about just taking my knife and stabbing the sidewall so TA could change both tires. But who knows what would happen if the wrong person seen or heard about it.

Since your a SNI driver also how many tires trk or trl have you had blow out on you. Im up to 39 total tires being replaced in 16 months (27 of them being blow outs, only one of them was a steer/ tractor

The Mexican CVSA must hve already been done....As I was setting in the street today waiting my turn to unload here in Leardo all most every single, we done wore it out send it to Mexico truck has a current CVSA decal on the window. I seen a 1970's R model Mack fuzzy balls in the windshield, look to had a bushed on paint job had a decal. If I remember right a green decal is the first quarter color and with all four corners is the third month in the quarter so March must be the the easy month in Mexico to get a decal. What a joke it is down here!!!

I don't mind them doing there job. My truck is in good mechanical condition. If it wasn't safe I wouldn't run it, but the guys who get a bit caried away are the ones who ruin it all. Most them guys see my old truck coming and start drooling

Is the inside of the truck checked, including the sleeper area for occupant restraints, or is this mostly a mechanical safety check. In all my years of driving I have never had but one courtesy check that lasted about five minutes.

I hope my luck continues, as I leave for LA again in the morning.

I know wingfoot will take care of any issues without question. My main problem with that is that I don't have one on my route...its about 100 miles out of my way along with a few added hours. Just bites that I can't use anyone on my route...seems they would much rather have me spend a bunch extra money on truck use and fuel to save 3 bucks, compared to spending an extra 10 and using someone along my route, lol.

I actually like the Tire Banks. The one that I DO go to, if I have to,...I went there a few months ago and had a steer replaced. Came back a few weeks later for a drive. Then he said "well...we are already taking one off...might as well swap out the other three on that axle and just keep the good ones for trailer tires for another Schneider driver." woohoo!

I think I probably need to go down there this week as well to get another drive on the other axle replaced. Going to schmooze and see if he will swap out all 4 on that axle.

Yeah I had a problem with some steer tires a while back...this time last year. The shop and SEM went round and round on replacing them. I had a bad.....wear issue on one of the steers, was going below spec and the shop said it wouldnt pass inspection. This was when I was fairly new...I actually thought the tire was ok despite some funny wear...but now I know differently. The shop refused to do anything (I needed another drive) unless they could swap that steer out, otherwise they were going to refuse service and send me out on the road.

I guess I still don't know what the average lifespan of the tires are. Im on my third set of steers so far (had alignment problems...just ate through the things) in the past 20+ months I've had the truck. I'm figuring that the drives last maybe...6-8 months?

I actually haven't had a blow out. I've had quite a few flats that I've had patched up or swapped out. A Wingfoot also gave me a drive with a sidewall patch that I didn't notice at first. One thing that (of many) I wish SEM would fix is their authorization junk. I have to call and get a appt set up for a non-tire bank shop...and they give the shop a authorization number. Then they have to call back and get a PO number! On average when I get a flat fixed or a tire swapped out...it takes about 60-90 minutes because of the paperwork / phone process. Heck...last month I had to have a tire swapped out...specifically said in my macro that I didn't know if the tire could be patched as it might need to be swapped out (1/2 inch drill bit at a funny angle through the tread). SEM only authorized a patch. SOOOOO I had to call SEM and wait on hold for 30 minutes and tell them that it needed a complete tire swap. Instead of having me had the phone to the tech...he actually had to hang up and call the shop directly.

My feeling on that whole situation is that Im not out here trying to rip the company off. I told them that it might need to be swapped out. They could have clearly told the shop to patch if at all possible, or otherwise swap out the tire with a specific X style tire and then give them a max price amount. Bah....thankfully I don't have to deal with them too much.
