Back in the 70's I hauled a load of 6 in pvc pipe, the top bundle was open and a partial. Not a particularly bad load, but han no straps back then, had to tie it down with chains. I didn't have to go far (50 or 60 miles) and it was a good thing, seemed like I was reworking it every half mile at times. lol

A load is a load. If you don’t want it, I’ll take it. And Yup, I agree...... a few of them can be a PITA to secure. And a positive note, they always remember the one that didn’t have a problem with it, in returned, I get the rate I want to haul it for. Btw, Construction is my favorite, they just keep piling it on. That’s what separates us from the younglings who whine more about it. “Get er done” driver..... ;)

I have hauled lots of misc loads for construction companies, never minded them too bad, and they always paid good.

Not my load, but was another guys worse load, easy but he didn't like it.
I worked on a broke down truck in NM, that had loaded in New York. He also had a bad tire our tire man was suppose to change while I was at it.
It was a young black driver, and he mentioned he had not slept a wink since leaving New York, because of the load. He was hauling corpses to a medical college in cali, and claimed everytime he tried to lay down he could hear scratching on his sleeper and worse. lol
My tire guy refused to change his tire, I had to do that too. lol

Notice the gear looking piece, took pictures from both sides. This way it’s easier to see it than explain how I did that loop in the strap so it secures it both ways and WONT roll to either Side.

Just looping it around would have done exactly the same thing and would have been easier on the straps.

My worst load was delivering a multi-stop open-deck load to the carolinas during a snow storm.... Every stop I hit, nobody showed up for work to unload... I think I was running north following the storm.

Done it that way too, but it depends on what I use it on. This way as I have it, pulls on “both” sides if your only using “one” winch. The way your referring to, it tightens more on the side the winch is on and the other side stays a little loose., unless your using another winch on the opposite side. I’ve used this method with my chains also for a long heavy steel pole(keeps it front rolling side to side). I always spend the extra time on securing whatever works best the first time, this way I don’t go done the road and it gets loose.
