hi, i got a 2006 C15 engine with a leak coming from the rear of the engine looks like its the rear main seal. The engine has 26000 hours with 350,000 km (it was a vacuum truck before i got it). i wanted to get it fixed later in the winter. any products anyone might have used or knows about that helped to stop the leak for the time being.
Thanks everyone

No.......
Save your money, put oil in it until you can take it down to fix it correctly.Heavyd, ichudov, Diesel Dave and 1 other person Thank this. -
In my opinion, leak stoppers, for whatever leak, shouldn't be used at all. Except for maybe power steering as it's a system that's somewhat closed off from the rest of the engine. And if your replacing the pump, might as well do the hoses too.
As a teen, I helped my uncle at his auto salvage yard. It's amazing at how those additives can clog weep holes and greatly reduce flow inside an engine.
That said, I don't recall seeing anything of that nature in the oil system. Usually, it was the cooling system that had the issues.
I did see a lot of engines that were screwed up by Slick 50. That crap turns to peanut butter.
Again, my opinion. -
Could be expensive but do it right. Chances are it’s not only the rear main. Likely rear engine housing gasket needs to be changed too. When I got mine done at cat they put clutch, housing gasket, rear main seal, motor mounts, and main bearings since the pan has to come off too
Diesel Dave Thanks this. -
luckily had a deliver right in front of kenworth today. What are the chances right. I talked to the lead and he said same thing as everyone here and how the addictive might get clogged in other areas like RustyBolt said. Thanks again everyone
