Im not sure about this but a feller I use to drive for told me that once your stopped, who ever stops you only has 20min. to do whatever then they have to write a ticket or let you go. I was told this after sitting on the shoulder of a off ramp for about an hour 1 day. I guess a 4-wheeler was getting on the interstate and they called and reported that a line of trucks was blocking and boxing in cars and wouldnt let them on. They pulled 6 of us over and took our license. When they got back to me I asked what was going on and he wouldnt tell me. Finally when he gave my license back I asked once more, what was going on and he told me. Then he told me to go on and dont be hotdogin. When I got back to the barn and had to explain why I missed 2 loads, the owner then informed me next time if he didnt have a ticket wrote in 20min. of being pulled over, just drive off. Now Ive had alot of checks sence then, all which have taken longer than 20min. but I have never drove off from 1. Perhaps someone could answer if this is true or not. By LAW does a cop/DOT have only 20min. to insp/write up, or ticket you from the time your pulled over?

Whew. NC to LA and back since Tuesday, and no inspections. I had to go into a check in TX, but was waved on through, and was bypassed at Banning because trucks were backed almost onto the interstate.
Went out 20 & 10, and back across 40. Lots of checks, but we were either bypassed, or waved through. Good deal. I guess no one wanted to crawl under the dirty truck we were in. -
ran I-40 from Memphis to Flagstaff on the 4th and 5th and 6th.
The only state to do anything to me was Tex. Shamrock was open west bound. Pulled in, weighed the wagon, passed up by the inspector.

Not true at all. They can keep you as long as they want. I got inspected one time an hour from where i was going. When i got pulled in i had 3 hours left on my logbook. When they were done i had less than 15 minutes. Officer told me well i guess your not gonna make it to your destination you might as well just take your 10 out back. It was very obvious he had held me extra long on purpose. This is not common, only time it has ever happened to me. But they can do anything they wish. Just ask them they will tell you they can. Needles to say i did not take my 10 out back I said io had to get somewhere with food and facilities so he said ok go. Well i guess the first place with food and facilities was an hour a way where i had to go anyway cause that's where i ended up.

I didnt get stopped once, but wasnt concerned if I did...as everything was good to go. I had a hazmat load going from MI to PA and was sure Id get pulled around back. Made it through Ohio but PA was workin pretty hard. Out of 4 I went through in PA, 2 were open, but I was waved on. Anyone have an idea why I didnt get inspected with the hazmat load I had?

I don't remember the exact statistics but on the radio they were saying
that something like over 80% of hazmat loads that were inspected in
the previous years passed with flying colors.
And usually the reason they pass is because just like you when hauling hazmat we/I
like to make sure everything is correct cause if anything goes wrong with that
load we know that our butts are on the line.Last edited: Jun 7, 2009

Thanks for the info, wasnt really sure, but I still wouldnt drive off from one even if it were true.

No. You're there until I am done. It may only be 20 minutes, but I 've had them go 2 hours as well. Depends on how many violations and how in depth it gets.Working Class Patriot Thanks this. -
Don't drive off, someone may throw you in handcuffs and the load will be the last thing your worried about.Working Class Patriot Thanks this.
