Just recieved my CDL this week and I have a pre-hire from Prime. Friday I while get some questions answered by the recruier I was told I needed my "hard copy, photo" license before attending orientation. CDL obtained in Tx. DPS told me it could take 4-6 weeks before I would recieve a hard copy of my CDL. Has anyone else run into this?
Hard copy required?

I hope you are aware a prehire in no way obligates a company to hire you . Many members here with prehires went home from orientation without a job . A prehire simply means you are qualified for employment . Many carriers will bring in more prehires than needed , select the best qualified , then reject the rest . Run a forum search on prehire .
In response to your question I've never heard that . My thinking is a hard copy is the actual CDL in your possession . -
Until you have your "hard copy" the CDL you have right now is temporary.
Prime is in Missouri, and they arent used to temporary cards because there is no wait for a "hard copy" The Missouri DMV gives it to you before you leave the DMV. -
Depending how busy they are in Austin. I've seen the hard copy come in as little as two weeks in the mail.

With that said, when do you truly know when or how its going w/ that company, I mean do we pull the entire 60,000 before we know if were truly (HIRED), or is there another aspect to it all.? I'm new to (THIS) end of the industry, So I'm unaware of how the chain of events go from point A-c so to speak, I know when i arrive there i will do some paperwork yadda, yadda then hit the road w/ the trainer as i already hold a cdl, but from that point it all gets kinda weird as to when & where do i know when this is my job or still testing phase....Full 60,000 then ill be notified of whats what or during the 60,000 somewhere in between ill be told etc...?

Unfortunately , you don't know that . Most do make it but a certain percentage don't . Some are sent home and never get with a trainer . Some that get with a trainer find out trainers have higher standards that schools and state DMV inspectors . Read the threads for trainers here . I read a post by one member that said he was training and brushed the mirror of a truck next to him when pulling out of a parking space . No real damage was done and he followed policy and reported it . They fired him . You may very well be successful with your trainer . But everybody needs to know nothing is guaranteed and there are risks involved as told in this thread . http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...here/78546-roehl-pre-hire-roehl-means-no.html

Hey if you guys want to hear something that i think is wierd, we have a local guy here that has a texas d/l(where he got his cdl) with a NJ address. I didnt think that was legal but he assured me it was. He had a court case fridayso ii will find out mon. if it is. Will let you know.

This has nothing to do with Roehl.
I suppose you can give us a list of trucking companies that dont pre-hire, and just gaurantee you a job sight unseen... also they will keep you on no matter how many preventable accidents you have or how poorly you drive.
If this guy brushed a mirror, and there was no damage, not even a scrape... then what is there to report? There must have been damage... he wasnt paying attention and he hit something he should have saw... preventable.
It doesnt matter what job it is... if you turn in an application, and they call you in for an interview... its a pre-hire...
From my experiance at Prime, beyond passing the physical, drug test, and background check... Be early, not just on time, EARLY. If class is breaking, before you leave the room know exactly where and when you have to be after the break.
There are multiple "levels" of drivers coming in at the same time as you, classes overlap where all levels of drivers attend, and then there are classes just for your level. Stick to what your schedule and instructors tell you.
Nvy - If you get going with a traine its safe to say you are hired... The dispatched miles you accumulate from this point are the basis for every pay raise, safety award etc... Vacation is the only exception and its counter starts from when you Upgrade to A seat.
As far as a probationary period... assume your training is a probationary period... no preventable accidents, follow procedures, and maintain the standards and you'll be fine.
There is a simple saying at Prime, "did you do everthing possible within reason to prevent a problem? if so, its all we can ask of you" -
