We get paid % at the terminal I work out of. As RickG has stated on several different post about QC, a lot of terminals are affiliate terminals, not company. The pay does vary terminal to terminal. It all depends on the owner. There are a few company owned terminals but I am finding most are affiliates. The terminal I am out of was an affiliate then the company bought him out they kept it for awhile then sold it to another affiliate about 6 months ago. So you will see a wide range of pay options through out QC. More later Hicksie

The reason rates vary is because they pay percentage and affiliates mostly run dedicated for shippers located near their terminal . Some products pay higher rates than others .
Our terminal lets us ignore the suggested fuel stops . There is no way when I leave to go to Canada they can tell me where the cheapest fuel will be when I fuel 3 days later . Once they told me to fuel in Woodstock , Ontario . That may have been the cheapest fuel in Canada but I had plenty of fuel to get back to KY and get it a lot cheaper . If you click the QC logo on the left of the Blackberry you can scroll down to fuel information and it'll show your fuel purchases for the last 60 days and average price paid . Some of the places I got the lowest price fuel at were Pilots but they show the location as "Unknown " . They do get rebates from Pilot and Love's maybe others .

Yeah I have noticed the Pilots and Loves have been the cheapest for me also. Our terminal manager said they liked for us to use loves when we could due to the discount is a little better. I didnt know that you could see your fuel purchases on your blackberry. That is something else I will try out. I havent really messed with it to much I am afraid of messing it up or sending a msg. I shouldnt send lol. Thanks for the info Rick. If you see a white pete give it a shout it could be me. Later Hicksie.

Well guys I got my 1ST paycheck Friday and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I didn't have my truck a full week but I managed to get 3 loads in before Fri. and was sitting at home by noon Fri.
Went back out Monday morning early and took a short run up to Nashville with some cooking oil dead headed back and didn't get my next load till Tue. around noon. Load of cooking oil to Canton Mississippi.

Appointment was at 6 am Wed. morning but I have been there once and was told to ask if they could hold it as soon as I got there and if so could unload early.
I was in luck they could hold it and I was empty by midnight. I got an early break and was rolling again by 10:00 back to Chattanooga.

I noticed going down an exhaust leak Upon looking for it I found it between the 2 sections on the turbo. I called in and was asked if I thought I could make into the terminal and the mechanic would fix it. I limped on into the terminal and had a real good leak by the time I got there. Due to the leak I had lost alot of power so it cost me some time and Mech had gone home.
I had a load to pick up and was told I could use another drivers truck to del. it. So all was well......Wrong. Dispatcher called me at 12:30 am knowing my plans to leave at 3 am to tell me load was scrubbed due to shipper contaminating the product and that my 3pm Thur. appointment was moved to 3pm Fri. Well it worked out that the mech. got my truck fixed around 11 Thursday and my load was ready around 12 so I headed out for Cary NC. I was in hopes I could unload early.
I arrived at the place to unload around 11 Fri. morning after a nice long break and a good hot shower. I only had to wait 4 hours to unload. They could hold product and no one else was there to unload but the guy was so nice about me being early I could wait. He didn't have time to open the valve for me so I could start pumping. so I watched him take lunch and his break and just before shift change he came got a sample and I never seen him again, the next shift came on and said pump away when empty come get my bills.

all in all not a bad week. By being paid % I know what I am going to make on every load. So I can just about say that my bring home for last week is going to be around $700 not outstanding but for the week I had it is ok. The messed up product and getting moved to Fri and not Thursday knocked me out of a load for Sat. but I cant complain.

As of now this has been a great job and I have no complaints. I am just learning the way things work and I am positive that things will only get better on the financial front. I'll keep you all posted. Oh and I have played around with the blackberry Rick and found it to be way cooler then Quail com.LOL:biggrin_25525: I'm out Hicksie

I just talked to the terminal manager in Louisville and what he's saying is that loads pay 22%, there are loads going everywhere (I do like having the opportunity of going all the way to CA occasionally, since I went to high school out there), and drivers are making anywhere from $700 to $1200 gross, just depending on "how hard they want to work." I would be paid $500 for my week of training and then I'm off! It's something to consider!

They want you to have a year of OTR or 2 years of Local tractor trailer. As far as taking the truck home it depends on the terminal. We can't take our trucks home. We on occasion get to go by the house but you can't drop your trailer so you have to have a secure place to park. All in all QC has been a pretty good place to work. When you go thru Orientation you will be paid $400. Then you will be with a trainer for your tank training depending on what instructor at Orientation tells them, with no tank Exp. it is going to be 2 to 3 weeks. It pays $100 a day. The terminal I am at does alot of food grade so it is alot of out and back empty. The chemical runs will get you all over the place and pay really well. I have a load of latex loading in the early AM Monday del. Monday afternoon in Alabama and I will go back to Chattanooga empty to get a wash and then pick up a preloaded food grade load. I have really liked the people and what I have been doing. I had an outstanding week last week and this week is looking like another good one to. All for now. Hicksie

Hey everyone sorry for the long break. Just been working and when i am home i am taking care of the house and yard and trying to buy my daughter her 1st car. What a nerve racking experience it is not because of the car but thinking about her driving. Wow seems like yesterday I was changing diapers.
Any way. the last 2 weeks have been really good. I am on the food grade side and we haul cooking oil. It goes to alot of bakery's and doughnut shops. So far I have been averaging 700 take home every week. I Had a week when I started that was dreadful but since then I have been doing real well. I have been home every weekend and pay will reflect that. We get paid extra to Del. on a Sunday.
Last week tho was a week from hell. :biggrin_25526: It seemed every place I went could not hold the product so i got to collect alot of detention time. I did take one load that was due to del. Monday but they could not hold it and ask to have it del at 5 pm Tue. I arrived at around 4:30 and was told it would be 2 hours before they could hold it. Fine by me a little more hourly cash. At 7 i was told another hour and they could hold it at which time I told him I was to bring another grade of oil at 8 am the next morning, and ask if he could hold it and was informed he could. So at 9 they came out and looked at my temp and was concerned that it was 2 low. There min. is 135 Degrees. after they checked mine it was 133, hmmm I thought they cant hold product so there looking for reasons to reject it.:biggrin_25510: At 10 pm I was told it was rejected. No problem I called dispatch and was told to drop trl at shipper and they would handle it.I got paid to haul it down 4 hours det. time plus paid to haul it back.:biggrin_25525: I dropped trl in yard and hooked to the 8 am del and headed back. And was told they couldn't hold it either, i told them when they could hold it wake me up.:biggrin_25518: at around 1pm they woke me for a sample and at 2 i unloaded. I was empty by 3 and it took them till 4:30 to sign my bills. Once again det. pay. I went across the street and lay-ed down and slept till the next day due to I had no load. I got my shower and a good meal. I was instructed to come to yard and asked if I would do some local work and reload the next days trls. there were 6 to do and i was done by 11pm. got a load the next after noon and it went well.
This was the most frustrating week I have had but In all the things I have done be it hauling dry freight or hauling chickens, knowing i was getting paid to sit there kept me from popping a gasket and getting mad.:biggrin_2551: I cant wait to see what next week brings and have very much enjoyed doing what i do. It is funny that all the aps i put in trying to find a job and nothing and now i got one all of them are calling asking if I'm still interested. There might be one i still am but they haven't called so I am staying put and will enjoy my job. I'm out Hicksie and sorry so long of a post.:biggrin_25525:

Yeah that's the thing with tankers. You get paid for sitting. It still sucks though especially if you planned on driving some miles after the unload and they run out your 14. Home time is usually pretty good as well. My week will gross around 1200. I left Sunday afternoon got home Wednesday PM left Thursday AM and back home Saturday evening. Had the customer not left me under an unloading rack for 8 hours I would have had got back Tuesday evening and had the entire day off Wed midweek.
