international 9400 a/c problem - help

Thank you. Ran the compressor straight to the alternator with jumper cables and it clicked on. Does that mean the compressor clutch coil is out?? Or what? Sorry, new to this and short on cash so trying to fix Ac prob by myself.

 

Also, when the compressor kicked on air was still not cold when i used the jumper cables. Any ideas??

 

Pull the clutch off the compressor and you'll be able to see if it's cool is touching the outside or its wobbly an loose and could be grounding out

System could need a charge. Your engine fan should kick in too if it's hot to cool the ac system

Trying to visualize the electrical circuit the only thing I can think of that would cause the compressor breaker to trip when you turned the A/C on would be weak breaker, over filled freon charge or blockage in the system and/or a bad compressor clutch. You have eliminated the compressor clutch if you did this test while the motor was running. Try moving the breaker to another position and exchanging it with another one of the same value to check that it isn't weak. Are your a/c doors working correctly? Are you water valves to the heater core turned off?

 

I Have a 1999 international, detroit series 60, the a/c compressor kicks in sometimes, then other times it wont work , any ideas? sorta has a mind of its own..

 

Could be a lot of things. Do you have an apads module?

 

I have an 07 9400i with a Cat C15. My compressor turns on right after I start the engine then turns off and starts short cycling. I plugged in the charge bottle, with the comp off it's in the red, but when it turns on it's in the green/yellow zone. So the system is charged. I'm guessing it is getting voltage since it does turn on sometimes. So, bad clutch, bad compressor?

 

Never assume your system is properly charged with those. If it turns on right at start up, that is an apads module doing that as normal startup procedure. See if you have an apads and if it is blinking any codes.

 

What's an apads module and where is it located? If it's something inside the the whole AC control unit on the passenger side, then I did not see any blinking lights anywhere.

And weirdly enough, AC started working again. It stopped working after a few hours sitting, then as I drove out, it started working just fine. I'm now resting again and so far AC is working fine.
