Northbound on the Grapevine on a Friday afternoon is like that on steroids. Four wheelers just GOT to try to save a second by weaving in and out of the 35 mph truck lane. Then they have to slam on the brakes in the hammer lane. Then you have impatient "professional" drivers trying to save a few seconds going down in lane 3 or even lane 2. It's a cluster.
Another semi involved accident

Trucker Kev Paid Tourist Road Train Member
cool he's knee-deep in the sandbox
something else you seen in the last since the Run of 4 and there came around more and more using escape ramps especially the last five years as the training you can clearly see it's gone downhill and they don't teach them how to drop down a grade..
Seen few numbnuts recently on 64 on sandstone in the sandbox.
and that's not even that steep
but when you start down in high gear and put your Jake brake on that's what happens..
business as usualFlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
as long as the "enforcement blitz', includes the 4 wheelers that are blocking exits, following too closely, riding alongside trucks, speeding, weaving in and out of lanes, etc,etc....
i personally never appreciated a one sided or arbitrary "safety blitz"...stevep1977, MGE Dawn, 86scotty and 6 others Thank this. -
I agree...FlaSwampRat, D.Tibbitt and buddyd157 Thank this.

I was 20 years old the first time I went over the grapevine. I had heard about it all my life, and was disappointed in it. It just isn't much of a hill compared to it's reputation.MGE Dawn, stwik, FlaSwampRat and 1 other person Thank this.

Smoking brakes on Vail is more common than ever before, way too many super truckers. State Patrol has been concentrating on Eisenhower for the last year, Vail may be next.
Bud A., drvrtech77, buddyd157 and 2 others Thank this. -

This story has more pictures. The more I see the more it seems like the trucker was trying to make that runaway ramp. It may be he was pinned by a vehicle and couldn't get around the slower vehicles in front of him.Bud A. and FlaSwampRat Thank this.
