My son is 23, and just got his first job with Midwest Dairy out of Coopersville Michigan. He has no CDL. They will be training him for 4-5 weeks. no pay for that of course.. and then .35 a mile.. and a penny if no hard breaks and another penny to stay at speed limit. Any advice for him? As a mom, I am extremely nervous

Well, if you go to work for a company that treats drivers the way most steel mill hands treats drivers, you will have to pay them to drive their truck. lol

It varies quite a bit from mid-30s to mid-50s. It all depends on being selective, doing research about the company, talking to drivers at that company, and defining your needs for pay and home time so so know what to look for.
You are going to get the pay and home time that a particular company gives drivers. You ARE NOT going to get AVERAGE miles and the "up to" amount a company advertises for yearly pay or CPM (cents per mile). Companies can run half of their drivers to death and starve the other drivers and AVERAGE what they put in ads. This is why you MUST talk to drivers at the company you are researching. Reading company web pages & ads on Craigslist IS NOT reliable info. -
