I had something eject off the tire, rebound off the cab and slice through my air line. We'll call that a 3 of 10 on the noise level. The turkey that fell out of tree and hit just above the windshield at 65 mph is a 6. A 10 would be when the tandem rails are stuck so you take the truck up to 10 mph, then set the trailer brakes to break things free and they slam the back so hard you get whiplash.

    This was an 8.

I've had this happen once. I think it was either I was driving 100 mph down hill near fort Bridger and hit a pothole and sucked air in my fuel lines.
Or my axle vent caps exploded oil out them and the seals do to high altitude or both.
I never replacedy seals, and brakes worked fine after that.
    Truck was 05 Columbia.

I had a similar event while a truck was passing me. It blew a tire and a piece hit my under bunk storage exterior door.
I pulled over thinking I had a bad tire.

All kinds of good guesses but without being there:dontknow:, I would pose the question " how did you do this?" To your next five students and see what kind of answers you get

@gentleroger hindsight being 20/20, some of the places I deliver to are rather remote and on one of my walk arounds before leaving I found an 8" rock wedged in my rear drives. Woulda prolly stained my underoos if it let go while rolling

Ft Bridger was a land of ice for me. And overturned hotshots. No trouble generally. Not for that.

The only boom I came across loud enough to matter was in NC western crossed over the black mountain and working west. I think the mountain was talking. Now before any of you think Ive finally gone nuts, it's when you have one of two things. Recent rains saturate the mountain, rocks want out. They will talk to you before falling on your head. The other is winter cold it freezes and expands the rocks by water. You pretty much never see the rock detonate the built up pressure but once in a blue moon it will do it.

    Nothing on the truck. Shrugs.
