Treat your driver's wife with the respect she deserves. Whether you realize it or not, we can make it or break it when it comes to whether or not a driver can/will weather any hard times the company may hit. Believe it or not, we can help smooth out the lumps, and will just aren't willing to that if we get told crap like "It's none of your business where he is." when we call you concerned about our husband.
-
I personally think they should give you a cell phone as much as we use them for company use yes. Ever other company has furnished a cell phone. Some companies try to operate on your money.
-
I think you are right about the cell phone thing. What would you say if a company gave you a brand new laptop and internet card, along with unlimited minutes, text, phone internet plan...all on their dime?
How big a priority is health insurance? Would you rather have extended coverage or higher pay? -
I am constantly surprised at some of the stories I hear about drivers and their families being mistreated. I have never seen it personally, but I know it happens.
What ways could an employer go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that you are satisfied with your spouse's employer? -
If I call and tell you my husband has not made contact in 2 days, and ask if you have heard from him, give me a yes or no answer. Don't tell me it is none of my business. Whether anyone else believes it or not, including my husband, it IS my business if he is alive or not.
Say hello to me in a civil manner when I come into the office to pick up my husband's check. I am human.
It's really that simple.

You know, come to think of it, I can't think of anything else. Maybe some of you can chime in and help.
Since I asked for anyone who disagree's to say so, it appears there are none. Maybe I hit the nail on the head.
As for cell phones, my company provides and pays for them. If the company requires them, they ought to pay for it. If not, I would not answer any calls from them.

I agree with all but two expections. Cell Phones and Laptops for two reasons. First some idiot would abuse the usage of both and second is if both are used they can be a tax deduction. I don't know about the rest of you, but I would want to lower my tax bill by as much as possilbe.

Jeeze! That isn't even a business thing. That's a personal issue for that company. Sounds like they hate their life and they are set to keep it that way.
I think the cell phone and laptop internet is reasonable. Maby a tv and dvd player should come with the truck, too. I'm not so sure company health insurance is as important to some drivers as it is to others. With higher pay, an individual could obtain health insurance that they can keep, even after finding a new job.
Should all companies provide company health insurance plans for drivers, or is this more of a perk, than necessity? -
I'm surprised to hear that a company would do that. My company treated the wifes better than the drivers. My wife lock the keys in her car once and when I pulled into a station for a delivery the owner came out and told me not to leave until the boss showed up. I was thinking what I did wrong and it was really getting to me then the boss came up and said I need your car keys. The boss dropped what is was doing and drove to the other side of town to get my keys and then back to my wife to unlock her car. I thought that was way beyond what he could do. But I have never seen any boss at the company treat a wife badly.
