There's no combination test to obtain a CLP in CA. I'm studying for the CLP now so I have it when I go to school either private or mega.

Not all want or require you to have it. They're just trying to cut down on wasted time. If you can pass the CLP test at school, great. But the school then has paperwork to do with the state. If you can't pass the test, you and they just wasted a week. I think someone posted on here that something like 12 people out of a class of 30 at CRST was sent home on day one because they failed the physical. And yes, you need the medical to be issued the permit.

    Gambosa and Adieu Thank this.

You have to get a med card to hold a CDL so you might as well just get it over with now. Its a 10 min dr appointment/ drug test and they print it out for you right at the drs office.

Don't they want money for that?

If it's part of a CDL program I'll end up paying or "paying" (withholding, binding 1 year contract, lower rates...whatever, still paying for it one way or another), I don't wanna spend my own cash

Besides, if they say "oh our CA school is full for a while, go to our Utah or wherever location instead", that CA permit becomes worthless

Your med card will be valid wherever you go. Even if they decide to send you to another state. Its only about $100. Maybe theyll pay for it, I dont know. Why dont you call and ask them? $100 isnt alot of money, do you plan on not buying food or anything ever?

A Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) is generic. What you test in to get the license is what determines your restrictions. "Endorsement" is a misnomer in the licencing process for CMV's. You test for and are are allowed to drive any CMV you pass the test for. If not, you are "restricted" to the vehicles you've taken the test for and passed.
