Man that is scaring me just to hear you say it.
32 years old (2020 trucks are out) truck as a first truck is an oldie. If you have a lot of savings and can afford some really large repair bills, then maybe try it. If you don't have a big savings account... well good luck.

You can get a paperlog newer 379 in just as good a shape for 30k.. Id offer 25ish and keep shopping.
That truck will stay together running heavy in the mountains where plastic 7mpg automatics go to die. Half the owner ops in the south run 379s and feed the kids 3x a day, 5mpg be ######. I get 5.1-5.5 heavy with mixed mountains. 6.3ish light in flatter ground.onetime42 Thanks this. -
Yea
You could buy that truck and on your first trip out 500 miles from home the DPFE could plug up or better yet the EGR could screw up throwing the check engine light on and your not able to do a regen leaving you stranded with huge repair and wrecker bills....
Oh wait that’s not possible because you wouldn’t have any of that crap to worry about.
What if it breaks down on the road for other reasons?
Then what?
I’ll tell you what, you will break out your hand tools and repair it along side the highway and then continue on your merry way that’s what.
Make the best deal you can and buy the truck if you have a solid business plan.Dino soar, ChevyCam, exhausted379 and 6 others Thank this. -
Hahahaha....thats pretty #### funny! True....but funny!Intothesunset and Hulld Thank this.

When it grenades an engine or even just a diff 2 hours from a good shop, the tow bill alone will hurt. Then the rush to rent a truck to get the load delivered on time, plus the $6k to $35k shop bill....ya no worries about it
FlaSwampRat, D.Tibbitt and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -

Thats why you don't haul "Freight" With the Large Cars......
That Car looks good with a Double Drop,End Dump or Hopper behind it.
You could "probably" get away with hauling a flat/covered wagon...But Rates Suck Right Now.
BTW- She's Clean- Looks more like a 98, Wasn't 88 the first year of the 379?exhausted379, Midwest Trucker and onetime42 Thank this. -

exhausted379, Hulld, OldeSkool and 3 others Thank this.
