hes had a CDL since around 1980, got it as a chauffers and then was grandfathered in when they made the CDL
he drove class A tractor trailers for about 15 years...then went to work for airborne express (DHL) and worked there for 13 years, driving package cars, not a class A vehicle...now permanently layed off along with 90% of there employees
no over the road experience, he was only local or regional dedicated
he drove class A trucks for the first 5 years at airborne DHL at another job while he was still a casual
would any trucking companies hire him? or would he need to take a class A refresher course?

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.
would anyone hire my dad?

Forget the major OTR carriers . Smaller carriers don't require a refresher course . Check smaller local companies

53s didnt use to be legal? i didnt know that
what was the limit before..48? -
CT and MA were the last states to allow 53' and 48' trailers . I know for a while MA would not allow multiple stops on a 48' trailer . You needed a premit and one stop only .

45' used to be the limit before 48'
