It’s something new every day. One day we’re tearing out an old road, the next I’m hauling sand, then next I’m with the patch crew getting practice on rollers and skid steers.
So yeah it’s good, it’s all I wanted. Family company that doesn’t lie, room to grow into an operator and a variety of work plus a real winter lay off. No 15 random hours a week crap like when I was in a mixer so I couldn’t get a cash job or vacation.MartinFromBC, FlaSwampRat and authentic251 Thank this. -
I am in the same boat as @Fold_Moiler . I never went otr and have done pretty good for my family. You can get some long hours driving local. I just got done 11 hours and 37 minutes and I'm tired but you know what my wife left my a plate in the microwave, I can take a shower in my own home and go to sleep in my own bed. That doesn't mean there is anything wrong with otr, it's just not for everyone and once you are a local hourly guy I could see problems with mileage pay. I live in a super congested area and if I sit in traffic all day I get paid even more because it took me longer. Mileage pay you will be having to plan an unscheduled stop to sleep for the night and not get paid much for sitting in traffic all day.

Yep, plus it’s not hard here to find a job that will pay you more than otr. I know it’s not like that everywhere but it is here.
If I was younger and local didn’t pay well I’d do oilfield work before otr. At least you got a bro dorm you can call home away from home.MartinFromBC, TugHillRider and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -

You should be good. Even if it takes you a year to find a good one one will come.
It’s not like you live in the south in a right to work state.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -

I guess, but overall I’m pretty sure the wages are lower as a whole.
Like how many dump truck or mixer drivers are making 30+ in those states?
