I went to USX right after I finished at PIA. To me, it seemed like the best option. I really liked USX; great drivers, great people, best equipment and they very safety oriented. But, half way through my training period with another driver, I went to Schneider hauling for the Wal-Mart Dist. center in Wintersville, Ohio. There were some "Promises" they made that were not fullfilled. In addition, they really could care less about safety,.... its all about how many loads you can run! They preach safety but when its "go time" safety goes out the door. I seen it coming before I was on my own with my Schneider trainer. He was a goof.

I ended up going back to my old job (pre-trucking) due to a huge pay increase. If I was to come back driving, I would say USX again and I highly recommend them for you new drivers. My opinion. Schneider's :biggrin_25512:

Thank you very much! My road teacher at PIA used to work for USX as well and had nothing bad to say about them. I am looking into trying some regional stuff first, so I will have to see if they have any regional stuff available now. Thanks again and good luck with whatever you are doing now.

I am starting at Roadmaster Training School in KCMO on June 1, and from what I've looked at so far, I am planning to go with USX. I haven't heard a lot about them, but I have been reading both good and bad here. I have a few friends in trucking already and the best they have been able to say is that they haven't heard anything bad about them. I'm glad to see the positive feedback here, so far.

Safety oriented ? :biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559: Here's their safety management history from safersys .

Not very impressive . They also had an enforcement which was for document falsification . Why would drivers be falsifying logs ?
As ATA Chairman , USX President Pat Quinn spouted all kinds of skewed statistics trying to make speed limiters mandatory . NHTSA saw through his smoke and mirrors .
I'm sure I'm not the only one noticing USX trucks hammer down passingother trucks in construction zones and 55 m.p.h. zones .

Ok. Let me put the rhumors to rest. The solos that were called in were from FL, CA and a few other states. As most of us know, freight rates have nosedived and FL and CA rates are the worst. So they chose to eliminate solos from those states so they won't have to deadhead a solo several hundred miles in and out of hometime. It's a profitability thing. Wow, imagine that, a business wanting to make a profit.

And yes, they've been good to me. Been here 3yrs and still average 3000mi/week.

Hi I'm a PAM driver and have been interested in US Xpress. Partly because I've already been driving an auto shifter with PAM. It's sounds like maybe US isn't one of the best in the industry but it might still be a step up for me.

So far I've finished my year with PAM so my CDL through C1 is paid off and now I'm free to move on.

I drove for US Xpress in 2004 and it was one of the worse experiences that I had in a very long time. Their trailers were in poor condition I had a terrible time around Hermiston, Ore and Fontana, Ca went through many trailers to find one to pass DOT, and when I found one in Fontana after looking for two days, the load fell through, they sent me about 60 miles to pick up the load after I got there, I found out the load had left a couple of days ago, I took the trip back to the yard, went to bed I had someone banging on my door at 02:00, someone wanted my trailer, I told them no, I had looked for two days for the trailer and then had the shop fix some minor repairs, they could not have it, in about an hour the management came out and told me that It was not my truck or trailer and if I did not give them the trailer that I could empty out my truck right there and then and they would escort me off of the property, needless to say they got the trailer, also they would send me to the rail yards before and after this to shuttle their rail freight in a 50 mile radius and they would do this for several days until you absolutely refused to do it anymore. On a good note, when they did not have freight in an area they would relocate me to an are where there was freight.

I've made it through my second week of training at Roadmaster, and so far, I've done okay. USX is currently not taking apps, but I did get one in with USA Trucking. I haven't heard much about them, either. I suppose I should start checking them out. We did have recruiters in yesterday from Werner, Stevens, and TMC. Werner had the most impressive presentation, but I hear so many bad things about them. It's really a crap shoot trying to decide who is the best and who is the worst.

when your a new driver its doesn't really matter. All of the big companies that are going to give you a chance are going to exploit you in some way. Either by running your tail off or paying you slave wages. Fact of the matter is that at this current time the only companies that are hiring for the most part are the ones that are not know for treating their driver right. THere is a reason that even with freight being as slow as it is that they are still hiring. Think of these large carriers like an old west saloon. As one driver walks out the swinging doors, they're shuffling another one right back in. Sorry, but that's just the current operating environment. It will change when the economy picks back up.
