hello all , I am new to this forum and not a trucker myself but am working on a book of stories from the road. It is a somewhat fictional account of a man's journey in tough times. Some of the places and experiences that I want my main character to have are based on jobs that I have never done and can't quite describe in a realistic way. To accomplish this goal I am looking to ride along with a livestock hauler for an afternoon, a day, a week, anything that will expand my own experience.

The book itself is set in the southwest and midwest, from Albuquerque to Omaha and the dusty small towns in between. If you want to discuss it more feel free to email or post here and i'll be happy to chat.

thanks for all of your time, George.

Sec. 392.60 Unauthorized persons not to be transported. (a) Unless specifically authorized in writing to do so by the motor carrier under whose authority the commercial motor vehicle is being operated, no driver shall transport any person or permit any person to be transported on any commercial motor vehicle other than a bus. When such authorization is issued, it shall state the name of the person to be transported, the points where the transportation is to begin and end, and the date upon which such authority expires.

Most carriers that allow passengers have a simple procedure for this. Fill out a one page info form, be of a certain age, purchase their accident insurance and you're on the road.

so maybe its not going to be as easy as I thought, do you think asking someone if I could follow them on the route would be a better idea. Then I could just watch what their routine is like?

Maybe try the truckstops in your area and find a O/O with a cattle wagon. If they don't want to participate, ask them for suggestions of companies in your area. Also locate the stockyards in your area and go to one of those on auction day. You will find a ton of trucks there that day.
