Yesterday my trainee and I finished the delivery of the skidder we picked up the day before. Our trip from start to end was 401 kms ( 249 miles ) and took us 6 hours and 45 minutes, that is running back empty. We were literally stuck in a mud hole once, so I unloaded the skidder and pushed the truck out. About 2.5 hours was on a 1 truck wide, wet, muddy, steep road. Tire chains on every drive tire and diffs locked. Radio controlled road, so get into a pull out if a loaded logging truck is coming down. Since we were loaded going in and they know where the pull outs are, they actually were very nice and pulled into the pull outs for us. The logging trucks try to cycle together so they are all going in or out together. They chain up their tri drives to just get in there empty. Worried my trainee may not be aggressive enough in how hard she would hammer the holes, I drove out for about an hour, because I will just slam the truck into the holes hard and the throttle to the floor if needed. I've been doing it for over 3 decades so am used to being very aggressive off pavement. Laura my trainee is getting more aggressive, but still not there, and worries about the truck too much to. It is hard on the truck yes, but this is the job, so just go hard.
