You are going to find that person standing on your fuel tank in memphis with lice jumping out of it (Her? He? I use IT privately..) every 30 minutes as she circles the truck line in the night.)
THAT will destroy any desire in you to be in Memphis any time soon. Thats what happened to me. I tossed logs and took off. Earle was the next stop west and a better place. From that I developed a pernament lifetime habit of sleeping quietly 100 miles from anywhere.
Example. US 322 rest spot Junitia River West of Duncannon PA US 15/Harrisburg Metro.
Things you noticed during training ?

The biggest take-away from a month on the road with a trainer was that I never EVER........ EVER wanted to do that again or team drive. I've always liked my privacy and don't like being cooped up in tight spaces with a complete stranger that I grew to dislike more every day.
dennisroc, FlaSwampRat and tscottme Thank this. -
In my time you learned from someone Maybe two weeks if that. Then you are given your truck and cut loose. If you require information to complete the delvery a thousand people will tell you how to do it as they have done since the founding of your company.
All this month after month of so called training today, papered over with gilt edged inkjet certificates and poaching and etc etc etc etc must be stopped. For the good of the Industry.
IF you are a American trucker with a big enough set of feathers to Go and get going. Fly.
If you want enternal schooling told over and over that someday. What are you doing? What a waste.
I tell you why it's happening like that today. Fleets are AFRAID of screw ups, damage and so on.
What is that? I tell you what is that.
We as a Country laugh at Swift or some other dummy driver slamming a 11 foot bridge painted in hot pink and buried for three blocks in every direction possible so that big rig does not hit it.
Such unfit people must be weeded. This is a hard industry for some. For a few that managed to get away with driving a truck long enough there is a certain satisfaction in it.
But it's not for everyone.

After a few months I got soo comfortable pulling around my 50 thousand in raw milk dancing around in the tank behind my Western Star 3900 SB with a 60 inch sleeper that I dreaded driving my personal car.
I felt very vulnerable once back in my Nissan Pathfinder and missed my ability to see way beyond all the vehicles ahead of me.
Tell you what after driving I avoid being anywhere near big trucks when in my personal car. -
I have slept in the old truckstop in downtown gary and not a problem (Much) And I managed to get away with it despite appearances.
But unfortunately due to my youth and so on at that time there were hookers who come up. I have no need of them. I am not their opponet. They move on and leave me alone.
HOWEVER once in a while I engage them with 30 dollars cash on a street corner parked so I can eat lunch without my truck getting spray painted in downtown NYC. The hooker keeps the local monkeys off my rig. And does a good job for 20 minutes. Honorable. IF anyone would know she would know.
They have their uses depending on the overall situation. And not for the idea most people think it is to be.
The reason is this. I grew up in the 70's era of the so called sexual liberation and all that and some of it cannot be unseen even to me as a child. I consider myself lucky that I did not turn into a degenerate.
US 40 in Baltimore from Erdman Ave to Joppa has a series of Hourly Motels. Not very good places to be. But that was where you went if you required hookers. And people did and for us we had to drive and live around that.
YUCK.
And you wonder why I love the south and west so much, such Country and women too. Good ones.
It's the hookers in the likes of Memphis that leaves me a very bad memory and it's not necessary or wanted. Particularly if I had to tell wife where the lice in her hair came from. Oh no. It's a threat.
So... I adapt to the situation and take care of it so no one gets hurt. -
I got home, and suddenly felt like I was gonna break my 4-wheeler. #### thing's so tiny that it feels like a toy compared to my truck
